Monello offers a culinary journey through Italy with a distinctive ambience that could be described as dimly lit and bustling, although the noise level can sometimes be overwhelming, especially when seated amidst larger groups. Unfortunately, our dining experience was somewhat marred by the lackluster service provided by our server, who seemed rather awkward and inattentive throughout the meal. Despite this setback, the highlight of our visit was undoubtedly the delectable cuisine. The gnocchi was heavenly, the flavorful cheese wheel pasta and Margherita pizza was a delightful indulgence. Paired with a bottle of wine, the flavors transported us to the heart of Italy, making it a memorable dining experience despite the service shortcomings. The food was great, creative, and delicious. However, there were some disappointments such as lack of vegetarian options, too much goat cheese in one dish, salty pecorino cheese wheel, and dry butter noodles in carbonara. The service had mixed reviews with some customers praising the waitress for being knowledgeable and sweet, while others had issues with slow drinks, inattentive servers, and discomfort in splitting the check. Overall, Monello is recommended as one of the best authentic Italian restaurants in San Diego, with delicious food worth trying, although service experiences may vary.

Monello was a great dinner experience. Staff was very helpful and friendly. The wait was not long for a table on the Saturday evening we were there. You must try their cheese wheel pasta. It changes every week so check their social media pages fordetails. You get to see them stir the pasta and other ingredients in the 60lbs. parmesan cheese wheel. We will definitely beback soon to try more.
Food was delicious, it’s really a fun experience watching them spin your pasta in the cheese wheel. lobster bisque was divine, with lots of lobster in it! calamari and fried zucchini were yummy, if only a bit over salted. service was good, recommendedgood wine pairings for us.
Perfect place to spend the Sunday afternoon for Lunch. I am a fan of Italian food and Monelo just took it to next level. To begin with we had burrata with bread. That disappeared from our plates in no time. We ordered salsa ai peperoni '4 pepper sauce 'pasta which was super delicious. Good thing was it had options for gluten free and choice of meat, which is very hard to find.We also ordered piccante which was super delicious, I did add additional chicken on the top. I recommend not doing it, baddecision because the pizza itself has lot of flavors, enjoy it as is. For drinks we had the traditional Italian BeerMenabrea Highly recommend this place, the server was excellent and so was the food.
This restaurant is fantastic! Went here for a work dinner and everything is exceptional. The staff is so friendly and efficient. The cheese wheel blew my mind! I had never seen that before and it was a very cool experience. My go to at Italian restaurantsis the lasagna and theirs was probably the best I've ever had. Everyone was happy with their meal and I would highly recommendthis restaurant to anyone. The only critique would be to reconsider the side situation. I don't drink soda often, but decided toget one, but was a little disappointed it came in a can.
My hubby and i celebrated our 3rd anniversary last night here. The food was amazing, and the staff as well! Shout out to our waiter, i believe his name was matt! And the cheese wheel maker, i didnt catch his name, but he was awesome as well.Complimentary wine for the occasion ?? thank you so much! My trip here was well worth it ??
