Description

Max's At The Opera offers a mixed dining experience, with some patrons enjoying reasonably priced draft beers and decent food such as the California Chicken Melt and Lamb Burger, while others have been disappointed by dishes like the Roast Beef Au Jus. A lack of attentive service has been a recurring issue, with some feeling neglected and overlooked by staff. However, the restaurant has also received positive feedback for accommodating small wedding receptions with excellent service and reasonable prices. Overall, Max's At The Opera appears to be a hit or miss depending on individual experiences.

Our experience for breakfast/lunch was very positive from start to finish. We were greeted warmly upon arrival and seated promptly. Our server was courteous and attentive. Our coffee was fresh, tasty and hot. The vegetable omelette was full of fresh delicious veggies, the country potatoes well seasoned, and toast had a good substantial consistency. We were thanked several times as we left. We'll be back for the piano and great martinis!

Always delicious and one of very limited places in SF that has a decent Fettuccine Alfredo... and it's amazing with steak and shrimp added.

First time visiting Max 's At The Opera and it was an underwhelming experience to say the least. We were attracted to the restaurant because of the large menu, outdoor seating deck, and live piano player. Despite standing in one of the two doorways, where a bulk of the customers and the bar is located, no one attempted to help us. After waiting for 4 minutes, being seen by staff, I had to approach the bar and ask the bartender, who can help? Should we seat ourselves? to which she replied yes, you can sit there (indicating the other side). The customer service was absolutely SUBPAR. To be honest, it was embarrassing! After walking to the other side, a hostess, who seemed disinterested, said, you can sit anywhere. After a few minutes of being seated, our server, who didn 't introduce himself and also seemed disinterested in helping, haphazardly gave us menus. No hello my name is, and I recommend. Absolutely nothing. I 'm not sure if the service is always pathetic or if there was a racial undertone to the lack of quality service we received. We ordered a Beyond Meat Burger with sweet potato fries, an order of fries, and the crab cake dinner. The fries that we ordered as an appetizer, came out with the meal. The food was okay (not bad, but, nothing to celebrate). Overall, I 'm not sure I 'll go back.

Loved the crab cakes here! They are thick and flavorful. Comes with cabbage and jicama which is refreshing to have after a bite. Also loved the roasted beets salad, it has corn, feta, avocado and candied walnuts. I got it with skirt steak. Wish I had asked for dressing on the side but next time! Overall great food and stay for dessert.
