Located in San Francisco's Mission District for twenty years before a fire forced the business to close, El Perol Restaurant is now delighted to be back serving the local community and welcoming old customers who make the drive from the city. Upon arrival, guests are greeted by Gustavo and served lovingly prepared meals by his sister, Chef Nancy, who has 20 years of experience creating dishes that cater to meat lovers, fish enthusiasts, and vegetarians alike. Some of Nancy's most popular creations include Lomo Saltado, Seco de Cordero, Jalea, Pescado a lo Macho, Cau Cau, and Aji de Gallina. Pair your meal with a traditional Peruvian beer and finish with mouthwatering desserts like Alfajores, Helado de Lucuma, Crema Volteada, and more. This was my first time at this restaurant and I visited on a Sunday night. I couldn't help but wonder if this was the usual chef. Having been to Peru many times over the years, I was somewhat let down by the lackluster versions of traditional dishes. While not bad, they were just not very exciting.
We had a great experience with food and service for our party of 10. I would highly recommend this restaurant. The wine was also delicious.
This restaurant is a hidden treasure. Despite its simple decor, the food is truly delicious. Plus, they offer Peruvian beer!
This place was a small hidden jam. It is not obvious and easy to find, but if you park it b street parking in San Rafael and go to the street it is right there. I have a steak sandwich similar to a Bistec sandwich from soul food and it was good. I also have an Inca Cola that was delicious.
Food was excellent and nicely plated. The sauces that accompanies every guest were so good that some of us ate him with a spoon. The service was very attentive without being overlaid. I enjoyed the decor that was simple and clean. The prices were very appropriate for the high quality of food and I will come back when I am in San Rafael. Overall there was little to quibble over. If you want to experience authentic Peruvian cuisine, El Perol is the place to eat.
