Contribute FeedbackCafe Europa offers a mixed dining experience, with some guests praising the cozy ambiance and delicious, authentic Eastern European dishes, while others complain of unprofessional service and disappointing meals. Despite inconsistent reviews, the owner's passion for the cuisine shines through, creating memorable dining experiences for some guests. The future of the restaurant remains uncertain, with challenges such as a possible closure due to renovation and issues with the landlord. Overall, Cafe Europa presents an opportunity to savor homemade Eastern European meals and support a local gem, making it worth a visit before potential changes occur.
I would avoid at all cost! We came because of the reviews but please don't repeat our mistake! First of all the place is very dirty- covered in dust and not cleaned for months by the look of it. There is nothing nice in the atmosphere- very crowded bar with glasses and old furniture. The food- nothing special! Too salty I would say and not much to do with the authentic taste of the dishes. The prices- very overpriced! You can eat in a nice resraurant and get attentive service. Not to mention they write down on a paper instead of giving you actual receipt. The prices on the paper were $2 higher than the prices on the menu. Typical Eastern European scams.Avoid at all cost! If you want to eat nice- try Little Italy or the restaurants along the coastline.
Iv been craving eastern European food for a while and this place really hit the spot. I work nearby and convinced the wife to meet up with me at the presidio and head over. Its a small cozy spot and the owner was our host and waiter and set us up at a window full of succulents. He was friendly and knowledgeable and recommended us some freshly made latkes that sounded good but I had some stuff in mind I wanted the wife to try. We ended up getting the herring appetizer, a cup of borscht, cabbage rolls, and a pork schnitzel. Everything was super fresh and perfectly executed. Fresh tender pickled herring with onions, olives, and rye, a warm cup of favorful borscht for these cold days, delicious rice and beef stuffed cabbage rolls that we opted for a creamy mushroom sauce with instead of the usual tomato sauce, and a massive crispy fried pork schnitzel. We both came hungry and ended up with enough leftover for a late night snack later but alas not room to try the dessert. Great food, service, and overall experience. Sadly the owner mentioned the future being uncertain due to a greedy landlord(my landlords cool thankfully but Mao was right about most of them) and other issues plaguing the industry and city atm so come out and support this place while you can and while it counts.
Food, service, and ambiance all amazing here. Some snoots give 1 star reviews because they think the silverware and glasses not matching is kitsch. It’s part of the charm. Believe them if you want and leave it for the rest of us.Food: 5/5
What a surprise! Sunday evening, last-minute craving for something NOT pizza. Had a delicious meal with a fabulous server/proprietor whose recommendations were all winners. Would definitely return! My only quibble is the lighting made me look even more tired than I felt. The food and warmth of the proprietor more than made up for this.
OMG. I have walked past this restaurant for a year and finally dropped in last night. the schnitzel and stroganoff were amazing and i have been in Austria many times. The server was great and next time in the restaurant, i will have him pick the food. This place is not at all trendy but a fantastic place to go for a hearty meal. Highly recommended!
