Alta CA - San Andreas
Alta CA
Description
Alta presents a mixed dining experience that swings between highs and lows. While the drinks and some entrees, like roasted chicken, receive praise, many dishes falter due to overcooking or lack of flavor. Service is inconsistent, with some diners noting long waits and a confusing tip policy. The vibrant atmosphere can also be a double-edged sword, as noise levels often disrupt conversation. The restaurant's convenient location makes it appealing for pre-theater dining, but the seating arrangements and limited menu offerings may leave some guests underwhelmed. Ultimately, while there are standout moments, they may not justify the visit for everyone.

A kind of small and expensive menu, but pretty tasty food and very nice cocktails.
I came here wanting to love itI used to love itIt was my go-to when it openedLet's just say that's a long fall from grace.
Ever since they started charging the tip upfront, the service has gone downhill. We eat here a lot over the last year as it is near a theater we frequent. The food has always been great. Prices are a bit up there but this IS San Francisco.
Excellent food and great service. Don't miss the smoked trout on toast and the beet salad!
The atmosphere at Alta is quite unique, with a thrift store chic vibe accompanied by playful '70s big hair band classics. We had a reservation, but they initially seated us at a high bar table. However, they promptly moved us when we requested a change. The food was outstanding, and the service was equally impressive.
