I ordered the crab sandwich with fries at this restaurant. The appetizer bread was delicious, with options like reels, Jalapeños Cornbread, and pumpkin bread. I would recommend using a higher-quality alcohol in the Barbra Jones tea, rather than liquor. The fried chicken tenders were perfectly cooked, generous in portion size, and very flavorful. Thank you to "Big Daddy" aka Pete for the great Georgian hospitality. I... View all feedback.
What Maegan Turner doesn't like about Barbara Jean's:
We read on trip advisor that this place was supposed to be good. It took 2 hours from start to finish. Waitress never refilled our waters, never came back to our table. Had to find her to ask for the check. One person on our table got a chicken sandwich. Took one bite to find a chicken bone. He thought that was a one off. Took a second bite only to find another bone! He wasn’t able to eat any of it. Another member in... View all feedback.
My husband really enjoyed the crab cake at this restaurant, it was one of the best meals of our trip. Our server was very friendly and did a fantastic job, despite being a bit understaffed. We will definitely be returning next time we are in town.
The free bread they give you before the meal is probably the best thing here. The portions were big, food was just okay. Our server was awful, very slow and inattentive. Ordered a drink and it took about 10 min to come out. I had the seafood platter and while it was good, not sure the value was. My wife got a soup/salad and said both were pretty bad.
I visited Barbara Jeans on a busy weekend, which happened to be Fathers Day. We were promptly greeted and seated within 10 minutes. The menu offered a variety of delicious Southern comfort food options. My husband and I decided on the Coconut Shrimp and Country Fried Steak, both of which were very flavorful. The sides and breads were also excellent. The prices were very reasonable.
I’ve eaten at Barbara Jeans several times over the years and the food is consistently good. Be warned the serving sizes are huge so go easy on the bread basket. We knew that and only ate half the bread (all so delicious especially the pumpkin bread). I ordered the pecan crusted chicken fingers and my husband had the Turkey and dressing. Each one cost $15.99. I thought that was pretty reasonable on an island for such a huge meal. The chicken strips (4) are more like breasts than tenders. I got dirty rice and white cheddar grits for my side. Both were very good, as was the chicken strips. My husband got the ambrosia salad and the broccoli rice side. He was also very happy with his food. We packed half of it to take home for the next day and ordered a small chocolate stuff to split. You have got to try it if you love chocolate. So, so good! $6.99 for a small one. It was totally worth it! Try Barbara Jean’s and you’ll see why it’s a SSI institution.
We had another great meal at Barbara Jean’s. We stopped by on the way back home from Florida. Their crab cakes are still some of the best I’ve ever tasted.
