What Barbara T doesn't like about The Pheasant:
We were extremely disappointed with our experience at this restaurant. The food was of poor quality and the prices were too high. We used to love this place and have been coming here for years, but we will not be returning. We recently discovered that it is under new ownership/management, which explains a lot. I had heard a lot about this restaurant but had never been able to visit until today. I must say, it was really good - in fact, it's a must-visit. I ordered the Sunday Lunch with beef and the meat was cooked wonderfully, perfectly pink. The Yorkshire pudding was light and crispy, and the vegetables were cooked perfectly. Surprisingly, the standout for me was the cultured butter - it was deliciously creamy like nothing I've had before. My partner had the butternut squash 'steak' with lentils, garlic, and sage, which was adapted for her gluten-free diet. She found it very appealing and said it was cooked perfectly. Overall, it is a must-visit with excellent food, a relaxed atmosphere, and great friendly service in a beautiful setting. I will definitely be returning again and again.
I was looking forward to a birthday treat at one of our favorite lunch spots, but it was a huge disappointment. The prices of the food have gone up, but the quality has drastically declined. We tried the festive menu, and while the cauliflower soup was decent, the turkey with all the fixings was bland and tasted like it had been reheated. I'm not sure what has happened to this place, but it is a mystery. For the high price of ninety pounds for a two-course lunch and a gin and tonic, the overall experience was disappointing. I would have expected better, especially considering the cost.
Stayed at a cottage nearby so went twice, once for drinks and once for dinner. Thoroughly enjoyed both experiences. Wintery evenings, roaring fire, a superb service from James in the bar, Liam was attentive looking after our restaurant orders and unfortunately didn't get his name but a wonderful gentleman managed to sort a little off menu request. Amazingly tasty food, perfect atmosphere, every single member of staff attentive and genuinely nice people. Definitley recommend and cannot wait to return
