The Feathers hotel is located on the market square in Helmsley, at the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors. This charming country inn offers a blend of historic character and Yorkshire hospitality, combined with a high standard of cuisine and modern amenities. The recently refurbished 23 bedrooms ensure a comfortable stay. Renowned for its excellent food and selection of ales, the hotel's Pickwick Bar is adorned with the longest piece of Mouseman furniture by Robert Thompson and features a cozy atmosphere with low ceilings and an open fire. Guests can enjoy bar meals made with the finest local produce in the Feversham Bar, while the restaurant offers delicious English dishes for both lunch and dinner. Additionally, private parking is available at the rear of the hotel.

Nestled in a picturesque Yorkshire market square, The Feathers Hotel offers a blend of modern luxury and warm hospitality. Reviews highlight the hotel's comfortable accommodations and exceptional staff, noted for their helpfulness and friendly demeanor. While the dining options include a commendable array of vegan dishes and a tempting menu, some guests found service inconsistencies—particularly regarding gluten-free offerings and kitchen hours. Popular dishes, like the Black Truffle Mac N Cheese and Duck Cassoulet, have garnered praise, although some dining experiences did leave much to be desired. Overall, The Feathers is a charming retreat, ideal for both relaxation and culinary exploration.
I made a reservation for afternoon tea with a friend after seeing positive reviews, but it turned out to be a disappointment. The food was average at best and nothing to write home about. The low point was a scone that was so hard I thought it was plastic. I later realized it must have been microwaved for too long. They replaced it with another one that was only slightly better. The scone is the highlight of an afternoon tea for me, so I was quite disappointed. The true test is whether you would return, and in this case, the answer is a definite no.
We had a wonderful stay at The Feather's Hotel. Our room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. Situated in the charming village of Helmsley, the hotel overlooks the town square. The front bar, with its low beams and Mouseman carvings, exudes character and is a fantastic spot to enjoy a drink and soak up the ambiance of a traditional English pub with accommodation. We would definitely stay here again!
We booked online in advance for 4 however there was a mix up with only 2 reservations, this was quickly resolved and we were seated in the orangery. Our drinks order was taken quickly as was our food order. We all thoroughly enjoyed our food...and found it to be of a high quality both ingredients and presentation. The service was attentive without being overwhelming. A particular mention to the manager from Northern Ireland who was delightful and an asset to the restaurant. We will definitely return the next time we are in Helmsley
