We had an absolutely fantastic day at Rowsley South Railway! The Yorkshire group has a small layout in one of the carriages, where they run electric trains and even have a motor to simulate an escaped gorilla. The station itself is beautiful, with a lovely café run by two friendly ladies serving delicious teas, coffee, all-day breakfast cobs, and a wonderful lunch menu. They also have a shop at the train station and operate a diesel engine and a saddle tank motor. In the afternoon, we enjoyed a lovely cup of tea while watching the last train come around 4, filled with happy families. Thank you to everyone involved for a great day!
I love this restaurant and the exceptional staff who always go above and beyond to provide excellent service. The track record here is impressive, showcasing the dedication and care of the employees.
Great 1940s weekend. Sadly not advertised very well, coincided with other local free events. This led to a small public audience compared to previous years.
Whilst staying in the area we decided to visit the Peak Valley Railway. Having purchased a round trip ticket we were taken from Rowsley to Matlock. The train was top and tailed by 2 industrial steam engines. They made light work of the load and arrived in Matlock on time. The ticket allows you to come back on a later train so we had a 2 hour visit to Matlock Town centre. The line, although relatively short was quite scenic and there was plenty to see. Rowsley Station is the home to the engine sheds and many items of stock were seen. Visits to the shed aren't allowed which is a shame but typical for most railways. A pleasant day out would highly recommend.
