What Sydnee Hagenes doesn't like about Genesis in the Hills:
My partner thought he would introduce me to this establishment as the reviews were good. Originally going for lunch however, after looking at the menu had to change to a hot drink and a cake. Lets start with the cake, tasteless small piece didn't taste like the description at all. I ordered a Belgium hot chocolate to go with the cake, wow you got to be kidding to serve that, the WORST hot chocolate I have ever tasted... View all feedback.
Have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while so we took a drive to the hills on the weekend. Disappointing is not a strong enough word to describe the food and the menu. The menu is just so limited and the food on offer just so humdrum and was something which could easily be at home in the 1970's. I had the 'bruschetta' which was easily the worst bruschetta I've ever attempted to eat in my life. Gave most of it to my husband as he will eat anything. The bread was some kind of wholemeal bread, un toasted, so quite soggy. One piece was spread with hommus, another with olive tapenade and a third piece with tomato which had been tossed in olive oil and dried herbs (cold uncooked tomatoes). Husband had the poached eggs in a Napoli type sauce. It really doesn't get more boring than poached eggs in a tomato sauce. I am completely dumbfounded how anyone could recommend the food here. There are so many weird and wonderful foods available these days, there is just no excuse for boring food. They need to get a new chef and also someone there needs to check out other restaurants and see what vegetarian food has the potential to be. Prices were OTT for the food as well. We will not be returning or recommending this restaurant to anyone unfortunately..
We saw this place on the road on a previous visit to Araluen and returned this way to check it out. It's located half way along the road down the Croyden Road entrance to Araluen and is accessed through a semi-steep driveway with a small carpark to the left. We came here for a late lunch and had the specials on offer, spaghetti mushroom bolognese, roast vegetable soup with sour dough bread and chia and white chocolate cake. Reasonable fare but next time I would try the menu items as judging by the pictures on here they look great. Friendly staff, blankets to keep you warm in the outdoor seats and a lovely shaded outdoor area make it a great place to visit.
