I stopped in for lunch today as I drove through Red Deer and found this spot. It is a great location in the old part of town, and they have a nice patio space. Apparently they have been open for about 5 months or so and it has a good feel. They specialize in Iranian flatbread. It is used of the appetizers and they make a great flatbread "pizza". I had the Open Road, and I really enjoyed it. The flatbread is excellent, great flavour, very light, very crisp. The toppings were excellent and it was not a pizza, it did not have a tomato sauce etc, bit the flavours were wonderful. The service was a bit slow, but I would certainly come back and try a few other things not the menu. I was alone and this is definitely a spot to come with friends and explore the menu a bit.
My husband and I recently had a late afternoon snack and glass of wine at Tribe. This was a return visit. Our first visit back in June was mediocre (poor service at that time), but good enough to warrant another one. As with our first visit, the service was slow to start. Once the ball got rolling though it was fine for the duration of our stay. The drinks were great with a nice variety for our tastes. The menu is a bit confusing, I could see where some people might not understand it at first but I'm sure the service staff would explain it if required. We shared a flat bread and it was delicious! It was nice sitting out in our down town core, supporting a local business rather than in a crowded, noisy, chain restaurant. I would definitely return to Tribe, it is going through growing pains like any new restaurant and the business in down town Red Deer is difficult to predict as far as staffing is concerned. I wish them all the best and hope they succeed. Red Deer needs more of these independents to keep it interesting.
