Feedback
Reviews praise Sushimania's fresh sushi, wide menu and fair prices, but note occasional service inconsistencies, language barriers and a small, busy dining space.
Very disappointing experience at Sushimania Reading. Before even visiting, I already had issues with their booking system. The restaurant asks customers to make reservations via email and states that they will confirm the booking. However, on multiple occasions, I sent emails but received no response at all — no confirmation and no indication of whether the booking was successful or not. This is very frustrating and unprofessional. The situation did not improve during the visit. The restaurant was unbearably hot due to direct sunlight through large glass windows, with no blinds or proper ventilation. When we asked for air conditioning, a rude female waitress member refused unless we moved to a table near the entrance, which made no sense as other tables were available. She even claimed that “other customers would complain” if the air conditioning was turned on — which is honestly unbelievable. Nearby customers were also complaining about the lack of airflow, yet nothing was done throughout our entire meal. The food quality was equally concerning. The deep-fried oysters had a bad smell, and the sushi (salmon and squid) did not taste fresh at all. Overall, very poor service, lack of basic customer communication, and questionable food quality. I would not recommend this place.
We have been here for several times. The food was not expensive and it was really good and we enjoyed food and music a lot. Really recommend the salad with tofu! That is my favorite and it only costs 4.9 pounds or so!
The food was okay—very basic. However, the staff were quite rude and seemed unwilling to help. A discretionary service charge was added, and when I asked for it to be removed, the manager initially refused, claiming that by law it had to be written as discretionary, I explained that a discretionary charge is optional, especially given the poor service, and that I was not happy to pay it under the circumstances. Only after insisting did he agree to remove it.
My recent experience was disappointing. I had food delivered at home, and the taste of the food was as if it had been cooked a long time ago. My partner had an upset stomach the next day. It lacked flavour and appearance. Most of the food ended up in the bin. What a waste of money.
