Gaveston - Quincy
Gaveston
Menu
The restaurant from Quincy offers 95 different dishes and drinks on the menu at an average price of $11.3.
Gaveston Cafe offers a mixed dining experience that captivates some while disappointing others. Patrons appreciate the friendly staff and charming location, complemented by an inviting outdoor dining area and meticulously crafted dishes. Signature items like the BBQ Bah Mi and Pad Thai receive praise for their freshness and flavor. However, inconsistencies in food quality and slow service mar the experience, with some reviewers highlighting long waits and underwhelming dishes, particularly the Beef Pho. While some diners recommend preordering for a smoother experience, the cafe's potential continues to attract those seeking authentic Vietnamese cuisine amidst fierce local competition.

I you are craving for some Vietnamese food you must visit this place. It is a wonderful hole in the wall. But wow, what great food, great service. One can tell that The proprietor truly cares about the food quality. View all feedback.
What David dislikes about Gaveston:
Worst steak and cheese I’ve ever had. It’s like they cleaned the grill onto the bread. Way overcooked and burnt grill leftovers all over it. Not only that their service is SO slow. We’ve been in here before and the food was decent, just really slow. We actually ordered and the cook was outside sitting with a couple and dog and we waited over 45 minutes for 2 sandwiches. The service was extremely slow, the food was mediocre, and the dining area had a low-quality atmosphere. After eating the banh mi, we all ended up with stomachaches. This restaurant shouldn't be regarded as a go-to for Asian cuisine; there are far better options in Quincy! Additionally, the slow service and unsanitary conditions make it hard for me to recommend this place.
The owner and chef, Galveston, came out to greet us, which was a nice touch. Although there was a bit of a wait, the freshness and quality of the food made it well worth it. We learned that they offer delivery, so this will definitely become one of our go-to spots. I can’t wait to try the pho next time!
I ordered several dishes, and while some were good, others missed the mark. Firstly, the Beef Pho was not true Beef Pho; I’m almost certain it didn’t use beef broth. The broth was flavorless and contained an overwhelming amount of whole black peppercorns... Wait, black peppercorns in Pho? Really? There was no cilantro or any real flavor in the broth, just spice. My wife had the beef and onion noodle salad, which she described as decent. The highlight of the meal was the BBQ honey pork rice; it was a bit dry, but the flavors were spot on. They used jasmine rice instead of broken rice. However, the pickled daikon and carrots didn’t taste quite right either. I haven't had a chance to try the Bahn Mi yet. I did get double charged for the Bahn Mi, but thankfully I spotted the mistake when I asked for the receipt. They corrected it, but I wouldn’t have known if I hadn’t looked at the bill. Overall, with so many Vietnamese options in Quincy, I don’t think I’ll be returning. It just didn’t taste like Vietnamese food to me.
GAVESTON IS SO GOOD! I never had a Banh Mi that taste this good before. I used to go to the one in Kam Man or Chinatown. Gaveston has rank my number one place to get a delicious Vietnamese Sandwich.
I recently visited Gaveston's and tried the Saigon BBQ Beef Noodle Salad, which was absolutely fantastic. I also bought a bottle of wine that turned out to be $1.00 cheaper than the sale price at Stop & Shop. I noticed a review that criticized the service, but I have always been received with warmth and had my order taken right away. While you might experience a bit of a wait for your meal, it's because each dish is prepared fresh and made to order. The chef is very accommodating and is more than willing to customize your meal to your liking, whether that means adjusting the spice level or leaving out cilantro. Gaveston's is undoubtedly a great addition to the Marina Bay community.
