We were following the Michelin guide in our road trip in Italy. We booked Sud one month in advance and they were fast in their reply and welcoming at our arrival. The area is not very nice and you might that it wasn’t a good idea after all but it all be alright The restaurant is nice, we sat outside and ordered the MVSS Mariana Vitale Sud Story tasting menu and it was amazing! Different and all ingredients match perfectly. Service was not so good but not bad either just details like the waiter crossing over the table to pick up dishes instead of going around. You were able to see the kitchen and all the chef’s moves. She is definitely talented and we were super happy that we tried this place.
Went to this place more than one year ago, but I still have very good memories. The place is nice inside, although the same cannot be said about the outside as it is on the ground floor of a creepy building in an even creepier private street. As the saying goes, don't judge a book by its cover...food is special! When I went in for the first time to book my 80€ full menu with wines, I could see the kitchen at work from the glass at the entrance...a bunch of young cooks was working with care and order, picking small bones from fish fillets and doing all the other special services the customers of michelin starred restaurants like to pay for. This said, the place is definitely all about food! Perfect combinations, the best ingredients, perfect balance in taste, color and texture. I personally loved minestra di mare and baccalà cheesecake. The dessert was slightly below the level of the rest, but I have to mention that I don't personally like liquorice which was one of the dominant notes. My partner liked it. I can't say I'm a regular michelin starred restaurants as I've been only to a dozen of them. Sud can be considered as one of the few where rewards are motivated by the food mostly.
