We had just arrived in Prague and were feel... read more The business name on our credit card receipt was Steak Frites-El Gaucho, but the place is actually called El Gaucho. We had just arrived in Prague and were feeling hungry, so we decided to try the first restaurant we came across near our Airbnb, which happened to be El Gaucho. Unaware of the currency conversion rate, we assumed Czech Republic wouldn't be too pricey. However, we quickly realized our mistake when we received the bill. The restaurant was empty on a Friday night, which should have been a red flag. We each ordered a glass of wine, salads, and steak filet with veggies, resulting in a grand total of $225 USD. In America, we could have gotten a similar meal for half the price. The food was satisfactory, but not worth the steep price. There were no extra amenities like bread, and it felt like a rip-off. When we mentioned the high prices to our waiter, he simply replied, "Our beef comes from America." It seems we'll stick to eating beef in the States from now on. Next time, we'll be more cautious as tourists. Interestingly enough, the Italian restaurant next door was bustling with customers.

However, the food is decent and reasonably priced for the area, despite the slow and not always friendly service.
