Was very pleasantly surprised after seeing mediocre google reviews!! Definitely our best meal in Portugal thus far. Attended as a party of 5 and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The sea soup was one of the best seafood bisques I have ever had. Also really enjoyed the cod! Would recommend trying, as it is hidden in a small road, with great and quiet ambiance. What Janet C doesn't like about Forno Velho:
Staff excellent lovely and polite. Food awful. Bland and cold. No oils salt pepper nothing. Sent coffee back so cold couldn't be bothered sending soup back for them to warm just ate it. Mot offered bread basket. Very poor View all feedback.
Nice restaurant on the central square offers some really well prepared meals. Traditional dish Francesinha is a must while visiting Porto in Portugal and here is maybe one of the best. Prices are affordable, personnel is very friendly and professional and speaks English fluently. Suitable bot for a quick meal while waiting or deciding where to go next or even for a romantic dinner. Suitable for families with.children too!

On vacation we went to this overpriced restaurant purely because the menu touted Acorean Polvo Guisado. We even asked them if they had some for that evening. What arrived was a stick of octopus NOT Guisado but Lagareiro. For 22 euros! The cook needs to use Google while preparing the menu. We come from the Acores. We know what that dish is. As a way for the restaurant to make it up to us, they offered a mediocre scallop plate and then charged us for that! I had the Cabrito (goat). It was tasty but truly when you got done cutting the fat and inedible parts off, there were barely 8 bites of meat. Way too expensive for what you receive. The staff was very nice. The setting was as well. Thing is, you can not eat either of those things, can you? Very disappointing.
We had a lovely experience at Forno Velho. This was probably the best restaurant experience from our trip to Porto. The place, the service, the extra friendly waiters and of course, the quality of the food. We ordered octopus and filete of sea bass for main plates and both of the plates were exquisite but the sea bass took the price, accompanied with a creamy lime and coriander rice. I would not hesitate to recommend this place to any of you. We booked the dinner through the fork (30% discount) so it was really worth it. 5 stars.
Like all the restaurants in Portugal this one was very good.
