Great traditional food. We had bacalhau “ as you do in Portugal “ it was amazing! My only criticism would be I would love more greens, but this is my personal choice. Great ambience, and a impeccable service by the owner Carlos and kevin! A must try in Porto. View all feedback.
What valerieLoughton doesn't like about Dona Gertrudes:
Wonderful service and ambiance, really liked the atmosphere, didn’t realise there were tables on an outside terrace. As other reviewers have mentioned very limited menu spicy sardines, two types of cod and pork (which has to be shared minimum two) apparently authentic Portuguese. Pork leg was like ham hock with a few potatoes and was very oily. Lack of vegetables but that was evident in other restaurants, Side salad... View all feedback.
A repetir!
Restaurante simpático com decoração divertida, menu clássico de tasca com toques modernos. Muito recomendado para casais pelo ambiente romântico e acolhedor.

A cozy restaurant very close to the city centre. Small lamps on the tables and a soft jazz music in the background really created an intimate atmosphere, whose only drawback was the ambient deodorant that I don't think it's very appropriate for a restaurant. The staff was perfect: friendly, professional and they gently guided us in our menu choices. The menu offers a range of typical products, including cheeses, hams and cured meats as starters. We opted for a cod with corn bread and potatoes and cod with mayonnaise and smashed potatoes (Prior's Cod), along with a young white wine from Alentejo. The cod was very well made: not excessively salty, not too soft, light with fats and with a good taste balance. The wine was good, too. For dessert we shared a Lime Pie: the filling was creamy and with a fresh lime aftertaste, while the biscuit was a little too hard and thick. We payed a little less than 60 €, which felt a little too much for the Portuguese standards, even accounting the good quality of the food. I hope they will soon provide themself the possibility to pay by card, as they only accepted cash.
