There can be no doubt that this is the best pastry shop in Porto. Here you can find the best breads, pastries, cakes and even handmade chocolate truffles, biscuits, cheeses and charcuterie. They also serve lunches and the food has a quality which is superior to most light lunch places anywhere else I can think of. Particularly nice it to be able to buy regional products of exceptionally good quality from other parts of the country, like e.g. the alheira de caça (a sausage made with wild game and bread), the folar da régua (an olive oil based meat bread), the butter from Marinhas , one of the best craft butters from portugal, etc. Everything you order to go is packaged in the traditional style of old pastry shops in Portugal, wrapped in paper or set in paper boxes and tied with twine. The staff is very friendly and efficient.

Cafe Nova Real was a nicely designed cafe with an extensive, delicious selection of food and drink, most notably pastries, tarts and cakes. We had croissants, traditional tarts, quiches and chicken croquets. All were delicious and our coffees that we ordered were great as well. Would definitely come back again, also thanks to the great waiter who spoke terrific English and was very attentive.
