Reviews - The Grasshopper
Reviews summary
The Grasshopper presents itself as a warm, neighbourhood pub-restaurant where good food and friendly service are consistently praised. Under new management the menu has been refreshed and many guests highlight attentive staff and reliably tasty plates for brunch, dinner and special occasions. The atmosphere is familiarly cosy and family-friendly, with guests often celebrating birthdays and anniversaries here. However, reviews note a few caveats: beer drinkers may find the ale selection limited, service can be inconsistent at busy times, and accessibility and bar-area policies around children have caused occasional frustration. Overall, The Grasshopper reads as a local gem that’s improved recently but still benefits from advance checks for larger bookings or specific needs.

I went for a birthday meal with some colleagues, and it was very pleasant. Food was served quickly and correctly, all was in order. We were looked after, and the environment was nice. The food was great, hot and tasty. Thaks. Meal type: Brunch Price per person: £10–20 Wheelchair accessibility: Toilets are upstairs would recommend double checking that there is an accessible toilet downstairs, as I didn't see one.
Elena was lovely and even managed to put up with my dad at his embarrassing antics at the table. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4 Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £40–50

We came mid week for a birthday lunch. We found the place to be cosy and inviting. We each ordered a different meal from the menu, all which was really delicious. However, we ordered ‘two half pints of lager’ and when they were served to our table, they were pints. But as it was a birthday lunch we let it go. One of us ordered a coffee with a ‘mini dessert’ which was clearly on the menu. When it was served up, we said to the server, if this is mini, what is the large one like? He assured us it was the mini dessert. Of course when we came to pay, we were told the ‘mini dessert offer ended yesterday’! There was no mention of the mini dessert being on any ‘specials offer’. We were offered something off here and there, which was no good to us, but as it was a special lunch we let it all go. We had a really nice time at the Grasshopper, staff were really friendly, and as mentioned food was very nice. We will definitely be back, but will make sure we get what we order.
We had a great time at this pub! We used the function room for a catch up and ordered some delicious food. We will definitely be returning in the future.
The food at this restaurant was exceptionally poor. I paid 15 pounds for 3 sausages that tasted like they had been sitting on a heater all day, accompanied by a meager scoop of mashed potatoes. The onion gravy was practically nonexistent, and inexplicably topped with an onion ring. Charging customers for quality food is unacceptable when the meal is worse than a 2-pound ready meal.
The food was delicious, the staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was inviting.
We came on a Sunday after 5pm, and we didn't know you could get a roast for £10, so I thought the waitress had made a mistake in charging us just £24. The food was great, the tastiest veggie I have ever tried, even the peas were not as plastic as anywhere in the UK. The atmosphere is another plus: one of the few nice pubs in the area, with cosy sofas and antique objects placed everywhere, even a scale in the loo. It also has a well-seized car park, if you're planning to drive there. Highly recommended!

We have been in the past and found it very good. Liked the candleabra on the tables, made it more intermate. The staff were very friendy and helpful with our requirements. But found it more expensive than it used to be!
Lovely decor and friendly staff. Vegan options. Food was nice and the waitress was always happy to help.
We ate on a Sunday evening, the menu choices are very confusing, menus are swapped when roast dinners have sold out. Eating in the evening during the week only the dinner menu is available, not the wider choices offered on the breakfast/brunch/mains menu. One of the Duck dishes had to be sent back as so tough. No problem with replacing it. The staff are delightful. I would not eat here again in the evening as the food choices are limited , I might try a lunch.
Thoroughly enjoyable Mother’s Day lunch. Excellent service, nice choices on the menu although prices have gone up since the refurb.

Arrived for lunch, group of 4, lovely menu, always tasty produce used and the food is lovely. Bit of a wait on food but it was over the lunch period.
I have to say this pub suffers from an all too frequent problem, Parking well automated parking control . The signage was poor and at no point were we warned by bar/ waiting staff that we had to log are car registration. So a mediocre meal was followed later by a demand from Brittania parking. For a large fine halved if paid within a certain time still a lot of money . Being a holder of a disability parking badge I could legally have parked outside on yellow lines for free. I appealed and eventually after showing proof of purchase in said pub . I received a condescending email about being let off and don't do it again, well I can honestly say I won't as I will never go again and advise others to be careful. Poor service backed up by a charge trap
Visited january 2024 for a family get together meal , all family members of the same opinion.Overpriced pub grub ,nothing special , overpriced drinks too ,will not be revisiting and will warn others .
This pub is one of our locals, love the atmosphere and love the Beers. Decided to go out for a meal for our anniversary, We ordered our drinks with the pleasant staff(no fault here). Meal itself was ok, nothing special just standard pub grub. When presented with the bill i had to look twice at the price of a 250ml glass of wine £12.50, sorry this pub is not high end and in a city, granted it is a large venue but the prices here are too inflated for whatever reason(probably think because they are situated on the cusp of a very wealthy suburb then they can get away with it).
Visited 27th Dec2023 with family who were back on route up North the following day. Ended our Xmas celebrations in style. 3 of us went each every meal was stunning cooked perfectly. Took great advantage of the 2 cocktails deal. The team on the night run perfectly well. A great night .. A huge Thank you to the team on that night. All were really friendly went out of their way to make sure every moment of our night was the best it could be.

We went on Sunday and I had the roast beef dinner. It was lovely. The roast potatoes were amazing. Quite expensive but with it just for the potatoes. The start were super friendly as well.
This is a fantastic restaurant with an extensive menu and a wide variety of cocktails. The venue is interesting and spacious, providing a great atmosphere. The pub food is delicious, making it a wonderful place to enjoy plenty of cocktails.
We dined there today on Boxing Day and were disappointed to be seated in the bar instead of the restaurant, despite having made a reservation two months in advance. The service was slow, and we felt rather neglected by the staff, which is one reason I would have preferred the restaurant setting. The food was of good quality and flavorful, but we had to wait a long time for it to arrive. While we waited for our starter, I noticed our waiter holding our food and stopping to chat with a coworker, which was not very impressive. Additionally, it took ages for anyone to come and bring us our bill. Ultimately, we had to go to the bar to request the bill ourselves, and then return to the bar to pay since no one came to take our payment. Overall, it wasn’t the best experience, which is unfortunate because we have enjoyed previous visits.
The service was outstanding, and the food was enjoyable. We requested a table change due to the strong sunlight, and our request was accommodated smoothly. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Absolutely fantastic! the eating was great, the atmosphere (and imagination) was amazing and the staff was nothing less than brilliant. we were a party of 8 so steamed a series of dressed, all really good quality and well cooked would highly recommend.
Great ambiente. faster service. nice eating. came to the Mother's Day. getting a small gift bag for the occasion was a super surprise.
Nice pub, big atmosphere ok, but not the place where you would talk to others. ideas for a group of people as meeting point for drinks before in the city for a club
