I like that there is lots of seating/table area in this cafe and can see that they aim for the fine line between quality and offering produce at a reasonable price. It has always frustrated me that in Plymouth the average customer expects an over-sized product at a really low price. Quality always suffers as a result. Friary Mill tries to find a happy medium View all feedback.
What Jannerbloke doesn't like about Friary Mill:
I think there’s been a cafe here since this unit was built just up from Dingles more than half a century ago. Friary Mill with its main factory out at cattle down provides a consistent standard and range of everyday pasties, rolls and buns/cake etc. Prices feel just a little over average for Plymouth. Provides a functional basic takeaway and sit down service for shoppers and those waiting for constant hoards of buses... View all feedback.
Probably one of the best pasty shops in plymouth. I've been here for years. veggie pasties disappear very quickly from the regals
Large selection of delicious foods, the cakes are particularly beautiful. a great place to get a fast, cheap and delicious lunch on the way.
Had ham sandwich chips tee to lunch, nice. very nice thick ham good chips. personal friendly polite.
Made a disappointing visit here last week with 2 girlfriends, needing a quick snack lunch. I chose jacket potato with tuna and sweetcorn, with salad, which was OK. Tasted all right but salad unimaginative iceberg lettuce, tomato and cucumber. However my friends chose fish finger sandwich and salad. Their comments were 'fish fingers were cheap tasting, deep fried, dry and in VERY thick, sliced, white bread, lightly buttered with margarine '. It did not taste that good as was too dry and there was so much doughy bread they both ate it as an open sandwich. The salad, like mine, was uninteresting. If the fish fingers had been better quality and served in a freshly buttered roll, it would have been very different! Also, there were very few staff visible. The counter and display was empty of food in the restaurant, so looked uninteresting and food seemed to be being cooked by one person as and when requested. At one point I noticed a customer enter the restaurant, see there was NO ONE at the till or serving at the counter, so they turned round and walked out I don 't blame them! We three will certanly NOT be back!
I call in here regularly for buns and cakes. The quality of the food is outstanding, the buns are light and tasty and I wouldn't go to any other bakery. I have also eaten breakfast here which is good value for money. The service is very good and the staff are friendly. The prices of everything is good too! All of the Friary Mills are clean and hygienic, you can see that the staff work hard to achieve this!
