Nestled in Pittsburgh's bustling Strip District, this coffee shop offers a diverse selection of in-house roasted coffee and flavored creations, making it a favorite for caffeine aficionados. While the ambiance is inviting and the aroma of coffee tantalizing, the quality of some premium offerings, such as Kona and Jamaican Blue Mountain, has disappointed some patrons, leading to mixed reviews on taste. The service can be inconsistent, with complaints about incorrect orders, yet many appreciate the friendly staff and generous beverage sizes. Overall, this shop appeals to a wide range of coffee lovers, though the experience can vary significantly.

Excellent coffee and even better company. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. The coffee is not only delicious but also reasonably priced. Overall, the perfect place to enjoy daily interactions with the nicest people in town. View all feedback.

What Krissy Pavelson dislikes about Allegheny Coffee Tea Exchange:
The most expensive coffee grounds, $50 a pound Kona and Blue Mountain, were weak and disgusting. We drive here from out of state every year just for the unique grounds, so we were very excited to try the best options they had. After brewing them a French press, percolator, and even drip, The Kona and Jamaican Blue Mountain were consistently weak, bland and acidic. Dollar store or gas station coffee would have tasted... Ordered two hot chocolates. We got two hot milks with no chocolate. Three adult men couldn’t get a hot chocolate order correct is extremely disappointing on a cloudy rainy Pittsburgh day. Usually the hot chocolate is the best in Pittsburgh and I say that with zero exaggeration.

We've been coming here for years for the best selection of coffees and teas. You can smell the beans roasting from a block away. The staff is ALWAYS helpful, knowledgeable, and kind.

Great coffee and FANTASTIC customer service! My wife and I originally went to La Prima Espresso first and what a terrible experience we had. Their rude customer service and mediocre coffee made us decide to go right over to Allegheny and give them a chance (even though everyone speaks up about La Prima and nothing about Allegheny). We mentioned that we wanted a “do-over” because of the poor experience we had and they were so kind to offer us a free coffee on the house. We tipped them the price of the coffee, but THAT is customer service! They gave us recommendations and went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied. Thank you to three gentlemen who made our day and the coffee was absolutely delicious!
