Extremely disappointed. I was excited to try Kaizen based on the overall reviews. However, my experience was not great. I will note that I made a reservation at 6 pm (busier time). I requested an indoor seat, but got asked if I'd take an outdoor seatinstead, I agreed. Mistake on my part. Service After receiving our waters and placing our order, it took a very long time forsomeone to check in with us. It got hot and we wanted to move seats. We got our first roll at 6:40 with no sauce or wasabi toeat it with. When we finally got to ask Kyle to move, the rest of our time he walked past us without saying a word (nice guyotherwise). If we were getting a new server, I think that should have been communicated. Finally, all of our rolls came out butwe never got the gyoza we ordered. When I inquired, I could tell it was probably forgotten, so I cancelled it. Food Thepresentation of the dishes were decent and the sushi was just okay. The rice was a little hard and I definitely had betterquality elsewhere. My visit wasn't worth the hype, but maybe yours will be. I would recommend Harumi which is also downtown andhas amazing service on top of high quality food. Ambience The best part about my Kaizen experience was the location. It'stucked away in a building that has an awesome vibe. Great place for a first date, catch up with some friends, or hangout fordrinks before heading out. The best sushi happy hour in Phoenix! Perfect for date night, a great sushi experience with only the finest ingredients. The food and drinks were delicious, the music and casual vibe were great and happy hour are 50% off the entire menu from 4 pm 6pm. I recommend making a reservation (yes, you can make reservations for happy hour). This hidden gem, Kaizen PHX is locatedinside the Lawrence Building, a co working space. Sushi and drinks are always super good. Music was BLARING over our table none of us could hear one another. Also our server didn’t check in on us often which was a bummer for the price you’re paying for food service
As a sushi connoisseur, I can say that Kaizen is THE PLACE to go in Phoenix. We have eaten at many a place on the west coast and by far, for AZ, this is the spot. Fish on point. Excellent service. Kitchen stays open up to 10 mins before closing. Full bar. Just a wonderful experience.
Had dinner with my wife here last week. Outdoor patio was great. It was cool and had a great view of the murals on the bldg across the street. The restaurant itself was very warm and inviting. The food was good. Service (Kiki) was prompt and friendly. We had sushi and a poke appetizer. For dessert we had the poached pear which my wife raved about all nite long. Lol. Altogether a good experience, the only negative for me would be the loud irritating music. Also, there is a 20% tip included for happy hour. I would go back. It was a very cool place.
