What Linda Lockett doesn't like about Big Apple Bagels:
10/8/22: Approximately 10:00am- Toaster wasn’t working, but it seemed like it’s been out longer than one morning, eggs are microwaved- eew, young lady working register had a very large hickey- tacky, the establishment was dirty- not morning rush dirty, but long term dirty and let go- unpleasant. Male employee called a name for a to go bag/order, a customer responded and left with bag, same customer returns with bag and said it wasn’t his order- heard wrong name. Employee gave this customer correct bag/order. Same employee called original name again, another customer responded and left with same bag/order. This bag left the store, returned and handed to another customer- gross! So many things wrong with this handoff!.
During my visit, a male employee called out a name for a to-go order, and a customer mistakenly picked it up. That same customer returned with the bag, claiming it wasn’t his order because he had misheard the name. The employee then handed the correct order to this customer. However, the same employee called out the original name again, and yet another customer took the same bag. That second bag also left the store only to come back again, given to a different customer. This entire order handoff process was concerning and quite problematic. Overall, there were numerous issues that made my experience unpleasant.
The bagels were excellent, but the latte and iced mocha were disappointing. The espresso had a strong, almost burnt flavor, which made those drinks unenjoyable.
I was truly impressed by the charming young woman working there. She was not only polite and friendly but also very courteous and patient while assisting me with my order. She prepared my order professionally, and I regret not tipping her more. The coffee and bagel she recommended were fantastic!
Hmmm. Today?s dozen was surprisingly sub par. The bagels were tough almost as if they were day old? And considerably smaller. New recipe? Cost cutting? Not sure yet. But at $21 a dozen one should get exceptional not less than a grocery.
Big Apple Bagels in Petoskey is a hidden treasure. The service is outstanding—both friendly and efficient. The bagel sandwiches are fresh and incredibly tasty. Plus, the place is spotless. I highly recommend this spot to both locals and visitors.
