Beards Brewery - Petoskey
Beards Brewery
Description
Beards Brewery offers a mixed experience, buoyed by its stunning bay views and friendly staff. Guests uniformly praise the delicious food, particularly the pizzas and craft sodas, while opinions on the beer are more varied. The atmosphere is described as cozy and inviting, with some patrons suggesting improvements in service speed and menu variety, especially given the small range of offerings. Although there are quirks—such as mandatory gratuity and bill handling—aspects of the experience make it worthwhile. In sum, Beards Brewery stands out as a charming spot for good food and camaraderie, albeit with a few service hitches.

We absolutely love Beards Brewing and make it a point to visit every time we're in town. They offer a fantastic selection of beers and, surprisingly, some really tasty food for a brewery! The entire space has a cool vibe and a very comfortable, inviting atmosphere. Although it has been too chilly to dine outside during both of our visits, we appreciate that there’s an option for outdoor seating when the weather is nicer. One thing to be aware of: the food ordering app can be a bit confusing (at least it was for me). When you order a pizza, it comes with a delicious 14-inch crust, but this information isn’t clearly stated anywhere. I mistakenly clicked on the only crust option available, thinking I had to choose, and ended up with a 10-inch gluten-free crust instead. I enjoyed it, but my husband was a bit disappointed since he had been eyeing all the lovely 14-inch pizzas since we arrived, haha. So, unless you specifically want gluten-free, I’d recommend not selecting a crust option in the app!
I don't understand why they only have 4.2 stars—those non-5-star reviews are off the mark. We enjoyed everything! The beer was excellent, and the food was really tasty. We tried a flight and liked every option, even taking some home with us. It was quite busy, but the service remained attentive. I have no complaints whatsoever; I would give it a perfect 10 out of 10!
I absolutely love the Root Cellar; it reminds me of the old Beards location on Howard Street. It's charming and cozy. The beer selection is great, and the staff are always friendly and knowledgeable. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a beer or two and reconnect with old friends. One of my favorite places!
We visited Beards Brewery at 5:30 pm on a Thursday in March and found it very quiet upon arrival, with few customers, no background music, and no TVs. We ordered a flight and a pint, a Sweet Spicy pizza, breadsticks, and a kids' hot dog meal. The breadsticks and pizza were excellent, while the kids' meal was as expected. The beer was a bit too sweet, almost as if it hadn't fully fermented. At Beards Brewery, the food on the menu truly outshines the beer. The staff were friendly, and the views of the bay were fantastic.
Just a heads up: the waitress informed us that she receives an hourly wage because the restaurant has a MANDATORY 18% gratuity. I usually like to tip between 20-25%, but I guess the subpar food quality is the reason for the enforced tip. Be careful! For better food and service, I suggest going to Petoskey Brewing instead.
