on recommendation of a friend I spent an autumn evening in the coolest jazz club of perth. we could see the baker suite on their Australian tour. it was just what I thought for a jazz club. dark, intimate, good music and many round tables with old school chairs. Of course, there was no need for a thing – smoke, because we do not make smokey clubs in Australia that put a damper on the general mood and atmosphere. View all feedback.
What Geovanny Willms doesn't like about The Ellington Jazz Club:
Suffer in silence. How arrogant can a venue be to charge the prices they do, and then expect their customers to suffer in silence and stare at an empty piano for over and a half hours while the musician has a break? Expect to bored and ripped off here. for a cocktail and for a beer? If this is what Perth views as the greatest Jazz club, you haven't experienced hospitality until you leave Perth. A group of us bought tickets to come here last weekend. On arrival the bouncer singled out our friend and told her that she couldnt come in, saying that she was too intoxicated - the funny thing was, she was our designated driver and the only one not drinking that evening. The bouncer refused to listen when we explained and we were not offered a refund for our tickets. Yet another good night out in Perth ruined by arrogant and ignorant bouncers on an ego trip.
Moody dimmly lit this is the epitome of a jazz club. We went along to a comedic rendition of rewritten Sinatra tunes for the Fringe. The tables are close together the crowding adding to the atmosphere. Small drinks list...we had a pleasant rosé from Cirillo in the Barossa...toffee and spice aroma with a crisp finish...food is comfort style...pizzas nachos and the like. But the music is the thing. Ellingtons is unlike anywhere else in Perth. If you love jazz it is the place to be. perthcafeculture.com.au
