Frequented all day long by locals and open every day. Restaurant, bar, shop etc. All in one. Friendly service.

Hearty dishes of the day and always Chanfana will satisfy you. A small eating house cum cafetaria cum shop cum etc. as they used to be in Portugal. Simple, honest and very tasty meals. Something different every day. Used by locals for lunch and sometimes a visitor. An original!

Ha... read more Stayed in Penela on a Tuesday. Schoolboy error. Everywhere closed. Popped into OBigodes and asked if we could eat in an hour. No problem. Come back at seven. Had the restaurant to ourselves. Delightful cheese, ham, bread and olives to start. Choice of four main dishes despite us being a bit ‘unorganised’. We had slow cooked goat in wine and cloves and steak. Both served with lovely batatas fritas and salad. Nice cake/biscuity sobremesa and coffee to finish. Excellent value and really helpful and friendly service.

The meat from our botoque was terrible and tasted like very cheap butter. I do not recommend this place.

The had a unique special flavor from the region and they... read more Best food that I had in Portugal! We were impressed with O Bigodes simple (caseira) and delicious meal! The had a unique special flavor from the region and they very well served. Prepare to eat a lot! We received one of the best treatments during a 30 days trip in Europe. They were very kind and all the time making sure we were well served and having a good time at the restaurant. Don't know how to thank them to make me have such a great experience in Penela. The city is so beautiful and O Bigodes is located at the top of the hill, nearby the castle. Just walk outside of the restaurant and you can chill looking at a marvelous view after having received one of the best treatments ever. Don't forget to try Baba de Camelo, a special Portuguese dessert. Thank you O Bigodes and I will definitely come back.
