Our Viking riverboat docked next to the Altstadt Hotel and after touring the town, we had lunch at the Altstadtgrill. It is small- only about eight tables and a small bar seating another eight people- but service was excellent and the food choices very good. Our daughters appreciated the healthy menu options. If you are in Passau and would like to dine in an excellent restaurant next to the Danube, consider Altstadtgrill.
This restaurant, located in the Altdstadt Hotel, is the antithesis of the stereotypical hotel restaurant. It serves superb, imaginative food in a modern ambiance. In addition to the main menu in late September there was an entire page of recipes based on the seasonal chanterelle mushrooms. Another page of dishes featured creations by a chef in training. His pumpkin soup was extraordinary. The main menu offered a variety of interesting dishes. Prices were very reasonable for a restaurant of this quality. I highly recommend it.The window tables offer a good view of the Danube. We were in Passau on a bike trip. The guides didn't mention this restaurant when they recommended places to eat. We urged them to correct this glaring omission.Even if you don't stay at the Altstadt, go to the restaurant. If you enjoy gourmet food, you'll be glad you did.
Freshly baked brot! super friendly owner! the darker tasted just good.
The best döner I've ever eaten. the ingredients are always fresh and tasty. the owner is very friendly and therefore the total package is from the front to the back.
