Description

Nestled near Washington Park, this artisanal bakery grinds its own flour and produces standout breads and inventive pastries—from olive-oil loaves to kumquat and pear croissants—plus gluten-free granola and vegan sandwiches. Quality and variety impress, though textures can be uneven (soggy fruit pastries, occasional tough apple skins), portions are modest and prices skew premium. Service swings from friendly to brusque, and the shop is takeaway-focused. Recommended for bread and pastry enthusiasts willing to pay a little more and eat elsewhere or take items to go.

Everything we had was incredible. The salad I had was beautiful, and the pastries were divine. Coffee was good. My friend’s sandwich disappeared fast. We didn’t realize there wasn’t seating at the cafe (covid safety measures), so we walked a couple blocks to Washington park. Will definitely be back ASAP to pick up lunch but won’t try to meet friends there for now. Honestly though I’m really glad to see safety measures in place while so many businesses return to carelessness.

Similarly to the bread, the owner can come across as a bit curt and disengaged when answering questions, almost as if she’s tolerating the interaction. When I asked her, "Which loaf would you recommend?" her response suggested that business is booming, leaving little room for conversation. The coffee was only average, and many pastries are priced at around $6. While the artisan breads might be a little stein-like, they generally fall within the standard market rate of about $7. In hindsight, I suggest asserting yourself at the counter and not accepting whatever is presented to you before paying. Don’t let the “soup Nazi” vibes intimidate you. I would probably give them another chance.

I paid $20 for a very small apple cake, but they didn't take the time to peel the apples. The texture was quite unpleasant, as the apple skin was tough and detracted from the overall flavor. It just didn’t enhance the cake’s mediocre taste.

Wow, this beautiful bakery is simply fantastic! They grind their own flour and make everything from scratch. We've tried the kumquat croissant, pear croissant, and a gougère (a cheese puff with cheddar and thyme) from their French bakery. We also enjoyed their sour cherry bread, ciabattini, and—yes, there’s more! I couldn't resist their house-made gluten-free granola, which left me feeling absolutely energized!
