I keep a very good memory of my visit to this restaurant proposed at the time by the site 'La Fourchette'. Cozy restaurant with purple décor where service and kitchen was very good and qualitative. View all feedback.
What Valeria Botello dislikes about La Violette:
dinner together, we chose the surprise menu with a glass of wine to accompany each dish. nice surprise in a pleasant setting. Very kind server. can be a little expensive for the contents of the plates View all feedback.
This restaurant thinks that because it's in a rough neighbourhood that it's average cuisine is in fact extraordinary. This is not the case. The portions are small even by French standards. 110€ for two, only one of us had ONE glass of wine. I pay less than this when I take clients to Laduree or another chic bistro in a far nicer atmosphere. Tartare de thon was less than fresh and far spicier than indicated on the menu. Warm goat's cheese entree was caked in cumin for some reason that made it almost impossible to taste the cheese. Cheesecake at the end was runny and made the base soggy. I ordered it because the owner of the restaurant assured me that it was as good as or better than any New York style cheesecake available in Paris. I was dubious, and in the end disappointed. This is not worth what they're charging. There's nothing charming, innovative or exceptional about this place that merits it's outrageous prices.
The manager gives all his guests a warm greeting, and was kind enough to open a little early for us when we had read his menu and decided to have a meal there. The food was so good we went back again the next evening. Prices on the high side, particularly for the wines - he only stocks the best - but the beer was good too! It is obviously frequented by locals, which is always a good recommendation in France.
Menu is not long and lists European food with a twist. Tasted quite good. Clientelle are both french and foreigners.
We enjoyed a delicious tasting menu at this restaurant. The service was very professional and the welcome was warm. The menus were explained, and a glass of wine was included with each course. I highly recommend it. Thank you!
