We visited Palermo a few days ago and it was late when we got there the Risto bar was situated opposite our hotel and so we decided to just go for a drink but w... read more We visited Palermo a few days ago and it was late when we got there the Risto bar was situated opposite our hotel and so we decided to just go for a drink but were captivated by the lovely Paula who introduced us to the aperatifo menue at a cost of just 12 euros. It comprised one generous glass of very good wine or beer of prosecco, then there was a plate delivered to us made up of at least 10 small portions of anti pasti or starter dishes, this also comprised some roast beef and typical sicilian aubergine and tomatoe stew called la caponnata . The aperatifo also was completed with a hot pasta dish made to order and was chosen by the chef, we were given a plate of fussili with a sauce of hand cut sausage and vegetable bolognese, i was also offered a very typical slider called panino con la milza This is a very poor meat dish that is extremely popular in Palermo made of braised lungs and offal and even if it sounds not very appetizing, believe me it is worth a try and then to complete the 12 euro fare you are offered a desert. We had one of these aperatifo combinations and then divided it in two as a starter course, my husband then had a plate of pasta dressed with sword fish and aubergine sauce, i had a massive dish of roasted vegetables and roasted sword fish and we ordered a very good bottle of white wine we paid in total 51 euros and the service was impeccable to the point that we did return the next night for a drink and then on the last day to buy some cakes to take home with us. At lunch time the buffet for quick dishes is huge and the chefs are efficient and plate everything to order, it is definitely a casual dining environment but with quality dishes and great restaurant service, i would recommend this to anyone looking for good food, quick service and value for money in a modern and very nicely decorated bar like atmosphere.
