Reviews - Hoppergrass
Reviews summary
Hoppergrass, in downtown Ozark, serves hearty Southern home-style fare—fried chicken and whole catfish often steal the show—at wallet-friendly prices. Locals praise attentive, friendly service, quick seating even on busy Sunday crowds, and convenient takeout. The roomy, cafeteria-like dining room is clean but could use a refresh, and some popular daily specials sell out early. Visitors should note occasional inconsistent opening hours and the potential for short waits; overall it’s a beloved, unpretentious spot for soulful comfort food.

Great place in the center of the town of Ozark Alabama. This is good home cooking soul food. The Locals are friendly. The atmosphere is likened to a cafeteria with open tables. If you come to Ozark, you have to stop by Hopper grass. View all feedback.
What Monica P dislikes about Hoppergrass:
I was very disappointed to discover that Hoppergrass was closed, even though everything pointed to it being open. At least ten cars of customers arrived asking if it would be opening today. I'm not sure what the issue is, but it would be helpful to update your website and put a note on the door. Unfortunately, this seems to be a recurring problem in Ozark, AL, and Daleville. We have eaten here several times and the food has been good each time. The staff were helpful and polite. It is a very popular place on Sunday after church but we were seated and eating in no time. They hove a fair assortment of items to choose from foryour meal.
My husband l have been here about 3 or 4 times. The food is always good very filling. The staff is very friendly helpful! We never leave hungry always more than l can eat ! A very nice homey atmosphere! Thank you to each of you that makethis a good place.
Good Southern home style cooking. The staff are always friendly and accommodating to whatever you need. It is clean and spacious however the dining room could use an update. It looks dreary in several places with the paint colors and dining furniture. Theprices are really good for what you get. Still recommend them, just for the food and they also allow takeout.

The restaurant offers excellent Southern home-style cooking. The staff are consistently friendly and eager to accommodate any request. The space is clean and spacious, although the dining room could benefit from a refresh. In certain areas, the paint colors and furniture make it feel a bit dull. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food you receive. I still highly recommend this place, mainly for the food, and they also provide takeout options.

In terms of food, I would rate it a solid 4 out of 5, while the service deserves a 5 for its attentiveness. The atmosphere also scores a 5, making it an enjoyable place to eat. I highly recommend trying the Whole Catfish!
Some of the workers here are not filled with much southern hospitality. One of the ladies tried to get smart with me because I did not know how they worked. I explained to her this was my first time here and I did not know. She then went on to say she was sorry but I think the damage had been done by then as she had embarassed me in front of several other customers. I’m only giving two stars because the fried chicken was good, but I’m not sure that’s enough to make me come back.
Great food and service. Food needs to be hotter Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4
I really enjoy Hoppergrass, but it would be great to be able to order some of the dishes that are available only on specific days, like the fried livers on Tuesdays and the bone-in catfish on Fridays. Since I finish work at noon and usually arrive around 12:15, I often find that they're already sold out. Most lunch breaks don't begin until noon, so I hope they will take this into account. Service: Dine-in.

I'm not sure what the issue is, but it would be helpful to update your website and put a note on the door. Unfortunately, this seems to be a recurring problem in Ozark, AL, and Daleville. A restaurant that consistently operates and serves a variety of breakfast dishes and entrees would be extremely successful. I understand this is the South, but not everyone spends the entire Sunday in church.
