Wife and I wanted a quick and reasonably priced breakfast this morning on our way back to the condo. Stopped at red lion pub for a quick bite. We both took the basic breakfast, two eggs, fruits, potatoes, ham or bacon, order of toast for $7. Amazing well priced breakfast in the hearth of Byward market on a Sunday. Would recommend it View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about The Red Lion Public House:
We were told when being seated that they were caught short handed with kitchen staff, and that it would likely be 45 mins. We said fine, we are not in a rush. However, it took 1 hour 45 mins to get our food. Luckily the food was great when it came. Looking at other reviews this looks like a common experience, too bad! View all feedback.
My husband and I were visiting from Toronto for the weekend for a 30 year High School reunion. We met up with some local friends to grab a bite to eat. The restaurant was very quiet on a Friday at 6:30, to the point where we weren't even sure if they were open. Despite the rainy weather, other restaurants in the area seemed to be much busier. The food was just okay, and I don't think I would return. I ordered the steak and it was way overcooked, resembling the sole of a shoe. The highlight of our experience was our server, who was fantastic. After spending a few hours at the restaurant, we decided to head next door to Heart and Crown. We had dined there for brunch a couple of years ago when they first opened, and had a much better experience, which is why we chose to go back.
The Lion has a classic pub ambience, almost upscale, in a dilapidated sort of way Popped in for a couple pintsPours fresh.
Tried to do lunch twice this week on Thursday and Saturday and were turned away both timesThey said they did have staff enough to serve us properly.

Stopped here for snacks and a drink during the afternoon. Was almost empty inside and maybe half filled on the patio, but waited for ages for our snack food. Food was fine, although the tempura was soggy. Beer selection was decent, but not as many as I would have expected for this style of a pub. Very classy inside, red leather seats. Most likely will not return.
