While waiting at the front to be sat, the hostess and a couple of servers walked by, no one acknowledged us. There were a few staff inside who saw us and also didn’t acknowledge us. When the hostess did come, she said she wasn’t sure if there were tables, I ask if she can check, she does and turns out there are a few empty spots on the patio! While sitting at the bar with my group of friends, I received a facetime call from another friend and one minute into my call the waitress insisted that I leave the premise to continue with my call because it is not allowed inside the bar. My question is this, do they force people to go outside to take phone calls in the middle of the Canadian winter too? The place was absolutely empty when this took place and it was only me and my high-spending group of friends. I've only seen no-phone policy in specific night club settings but never in a regular, empty bar. The cheese melt was delicious but small. I asked if they could modify it a little bit by adding a type of cheese they had as an ingredient in another dish and they seemed shocked I even bother to make such a request. We found out the potato wedges we ordered were boiled potatoes and had a shocking taste to the point we could not believe they claimed it was a favorite in the menu. Because Ottawa lacks the volume of of bars with that cozy/fancy ambiance, this place remains one of the few bars to go to to get that experience. However, I would caution guests to not go there hungry and god-forbid do not accept phone calls inside the bar because you will break the laws of the bar! You will face humiliation of getting kicked out of an empty bar and can only come back when your call is over. Personally, I cannot believe a bar that, between us, is just above average, would treat one of their only clients on a slow night in such a way.
Place was outstanding. Cocktails made to perfection and the food was incredibly tasty. Service was top notch too. I think I’ve been to most of the good places in Ottawa and I’d rate this in the top bunch for sure.
The service is great. The Margarita was weak and not very interesting. The food was tasty, but the portions are tiny for the price. In summary, if you don’t care what price you pay, this is a charming little spot. If you have any sort of budget, this place has Toronto prices with Vancouver portions.
I met up with girlfriends for a cocktail snd I’m really glad we chose Moonroom. The drinks were innovative, delicious and beautifully presented. We stayed for more and ordered food. They are small plates that we shared. Each dish melded many flavours and textures together to create bursts of flavour with each bite. I absolutely recommend the food. The service we received was too-notch. So knowledgeable, helpful and attentive. I have a food allergy that they took very seriously. They ensured my meal was safe for me. I will be back with more friends.
