It's a great lunch spot. Fresh, homemade, delicious sandwiches and salads. Similing, friendly service. Honest prices. Try the A Goos sandwich or thai chicken salad. Mmmmm View all feedback.
What Jerry Veum doesn't like about Gooney's Sandwich Works:
After the amazing arepas I had in Montreal, I was so excited to see this place and was eager to try. It was okay, but nothing compared to what I had in Montreal. I found it quite dry and I didn't really love the cheddar cheese. The sauce they put on top really overpowered the beef. If you've never had an arepas, give a go! Because it wasn't awful or anything like that. View all feedback.
I came for the arepas! This Latin American cornmeal bun sandwich has been on my radar ever since I first came across the sandwich board advertising them,
I usually eat at the 251 Laurier Avenue West location, but this review applies to both stores.
We checked Trip Advisor for best breakfast eats and found this little place around the corner from our hotel. Looked different and interesting so we walked over. Found out that an Arepa is an amazing breakfast wrap! Was so delicious we came back today for a second round. Highly recommended for breakfast and I bet the lunch sandwiches will be just as good from what we see on the menu. I almost forgot to mention they have the best coffee. Best Latte I’ve had in ages. Go there!
A hidden gem! The look, location and name (one would think an old-school diner or dive bar, right? didn 't appeal to me walking by, but a sign about arepas made me do a double take. Arepas? The South american corn-bread sandwich/pocket? In DT Ottawa? Yes and yes. Run by a family from Venezuela, this little sandwich shop serves these delicious pockets with a (expected line-up of soup/salad/wraps.<br/ <br/ The arepas at lunchtime cost around 6-7 bucks and filling for a regular appetite. Choose a number of combinations featuring meat, black beans, cheese and veggies. Mine had chunks of sweet 'n ' savoury plantain to add an extra layer of tastiness! Yum!<br/ <br/ They also have cheaper versions for breakfast and small selection of takeout items for those interested. The coriander/cilantro sauce, provided in bottles (next to the hot sauce on tables is cool although I 'd prefer a less garlicky version to allow the cilantro to shine through.
I've been here several times, especially that it's conveniently near work. Their sandwiches, especially their special bread is so yummy! They have a cilantro sauce that is to die for. I prefer their breakfast sandwiches, but their main sandwiches are delicious too.
