This restaurant in Ottawa is one of the best around! The food, service, and atmosphere are all top-notch. The crowd is cool and the food is exceptional.

I should have guessed that it was burnt because we could hear the cook complaining/yelling about "the thermostat". It wasn't completely burned, so we ate some, but the cook didn't have the decency to spread the 2 toppings evenly over the pizza. On a good note, there was lots of cheese The kicker was that the menu lists a two topping pizza for $16.19, but I was charged 20.54. When I asked the waiter he told us that that is the price his computer says and that he couldnt change it. We gave in and paid "the computer price". Nice service! Crooks! What a let down - Metcalfe deserves one good restaurant.
It has been a couple of months since I first visited this restaurant. I wrote my initial review in a positive light, today however if I could give them no stars, I would. Shortly after my initial visit for whatever reason, the owner decided to cut ties with Billy Bob and go on without him. Bad mistake, if what we experienced tonight is anything of a result of this decision. When we arrived, we were told to choose anywhere we desired as we had the run of the place as we were the only customers in sight. The older waitress brought over our menus and took our drink requests (coffee and ice tea) while we looked at the menu. We did ask about the specials and were told there was only one, a personal sized pizza. I did notice a sign upon entering the place that informed us that customers could meet the new head chef and see the new menu on the 15th of November.Looking over the menu, I could understand why. It was still fairly limited in what was available and the same menu items from the first days of opening up, with the exception they had raised the prices on some selections.I decided on the "Fiery Cow" burger as it wasn't available during my earlier visit. This burger is supposed to be a "7 oz patty stuffed with jalapenos, and served with all the trimmings including fried onions". My friend ordered the soup and a cheeseburger and fries. After we had ordered the food and received our drinks the next patrons arrived, were seated and made their orders. The soup arrived and much to my friends puzzlement was the strangest looking and uninspiring tasting vegetable barley concoction. Customers have a clear view of the cook and can see what appears to be work being done by the kitchen staff, which should be a good thing, one would think. We waited, and waited some more only to see after about 25 minutes the first bit of food placed on the counter to be for the ladies who came and ordered after us.My burger came at last. It arrived with the apology that they had run out of burger buns. They had laughingly toasted a couple slices of bread, cut the corners off to make it round-ish for a start. The burger was a wafer thin offering of meat which had peppers on the top of it, but not stuffed whatsoever. The other cheeseburger was no where to be seen. I can imagine they are desperately in need of a new chef because a one eye'd, one armed, peg legged capability challenged person could have completed the order in half the time and I am sure done it as per the menu. There is no way that what was presented to me should have taken half an hour to dish up.I pointedly stated that the menu clearly states "stuffed with..." she then took it back and said that they would make me another. We decided then and there to forgo their fare and go. We said we would pay for what we had consumed and were told that it was on the house. The waitress said she hoped that we would give them another chance... sorry my dear, there is no chance of that. Why they could not have come over and told us that they had no burger buns is beyond me. The waitress did not even come over to see how we were doing for that matter. The owner muttered to us a "sorry" as we passed by where he was sitting at the door. Not half as sorry as we were that's for **** sure.I cannot remember when, if ever, I have walked out on a restaurant. I won't walk in to this place again, new chef or new menu be damned. What a colossal mistake in booting Billy Bob to the curb, I'm beginning to suspect.
This restaurant is just recently opened. With any new venture there are bound to be some bumps in the road. My room mate had dined here on a couple of occasions the past couple of weeks. He told me that there were some growing pains as could be expected, but I did notice that each visit seemed to be better and better.Tonight he offered to treat me to supper and off we went. The restaurant offers a good number of tables as well as seating at their L shaped bar at the back end of the place. The kitchen is placed to one side and is an open concept which allows the diners to see more of what goes on out front in preparing a meal.We were greeted straight away and allowed to find a table that suited our needs. The waitress was very attentive and our orders were taken in no time at all. As I said, all new places have growing pains and service was one of the early pains here I am told. Tonight I can say that they've cured that one as the service was excellent.Today's pain was that not all meals were available as I found out with my first choice, they have suffered from some delivery issues and I am sure that this will be less and less of an issue as well down the road.I decided on the Fried Chicken with fries. My room mate ordered the Farmers Clubhouse Sandwich with fries as well as Jalapeno Pepper Poppers to start. The Peppers came fairly swiftly with an accompanying dip. The flavour and texture was just the right amount of cheese, spice and crunchiness as well as a generous portion great for sharing. My Chicken was a two piece and was much to my surprise all boneless breast meat with a very large piece and a smaller bit. The meat was tender, juicy, marinated and delicious. One of the management team, Billy Bob, hails from Tennessee and it was interesting to see his take on how Southern Fried Chicken should be. I wasn't disappointed, he is training to ladies on the cooking side of things and it was their handiwork tonight. Well done ladies. My room mate was very pleased with his sandwich which was also very generous in portion. He seemed happy. The menu is not too extensive which allows them to concentrate on doing what they have on offer, right. I was a little apprehensive before coming with the teething problems they've experienced. Thankfully my fears were totally unfounded and it was a meal that I'm pleased to be able to write nice things about. I will be back again to try something else and can recommend Foster's to anyone in confidence.
I love Big Easy! I have visited this restaurant several times and the staff is very attentive. All employees work together to provide great service.
