Datsun
Description
Datsun offers a culinary journey through Asian fusion with a casual vibe that appeals to many diners. The menu features a variety of dishes, such as the tender pork belly bao and flavorful Dan Dan noodles, though some portions may be on the smaller side and pricing somewhat high. The drink selection, including their praised mai tai, complements the creative and enticing dishes. The atmosphere is lively, yet reservations are recommended due to its popularity. While the flavors cater to varied palates, the attentive staff and efficient service ensure a rewarding dining experience worth the wait.

Now, onto the food—the buns were fantastic! I especially loved the tofu bun; I could have easily eaten three of those. The squash dumplings had a very distinctive flavor, though I would have preferred a bit more spice and slightly less dill or lemongrass. The ramen was decent, but the Eggplant Dan Dan noodles were a true standout. The flavor was amazing, and the presentation was spot on. This place is not very kid-friendly, so I would recommend it for a date night.
I had a wonderful evening at this restaurant with a friend! The food was absolutely delicious, particularly the Dan Dan noodles, and the presentation was beautiful, which is always a nice touch! Our server was incredibly sweet, funny, and attentive. On a previous visit, I tried their crispy chicken bao (no photo available), and it was fantastic—crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside! I highly recommend adding that to your order.
Another fantastic dining experience! Each time we visit, we try various dishes from the menu, and Datsun never lets us down. Consistency is essential! The plates are beautifully presented, the cocktails are delightful, the food is fresh and delicious, and the service is friendly. This place is definitely one of our favorites in town.
Great service and incredible food. The squash dumplings and spicy coconut milk laksa were delicious. Great vibe and tasty cocktails. Would definitely come back again the next time I’m visiting Ottawa.
Follow my food blog on Instagram for restaurant reviews: @mimi.munches! I really enjoy coming to Datsun on Elgin Street when I 'm craving tasty and beautiful dishes. It 's always a treat! This time, here are the dishes I tried: Pork Belly Bao with cucumber and broad bean sauce $6.75/each): the pork in this is SO tender, it melts in your mouth. Paired with a white, fluffy bao, this is really satisfying. I wanted to try the Crispy Chicken Bao but they were out, so I 'll just have to come back! Vegan Charred Eggplant Noodles with smoky chili $16): I 'm usually not someone who chooses vegetarian dishes just because I 'm a carnivore, but I was feeling experimental and this did not disappoint! The charred eggplant lends a nice richness to the dish which made it feel very satisfying I didn 't miss the meat! If you have any bao pieces leftover, dipping it in the sauce for this dish is so good! Lastly, I always want to get a 'pretty ' dish, and I LOVE anything scallop, so I had to try their scallop crudo with coconut, strawberries, and chilies! When I first saw this on their Instagram page, I knew I HAD to get it I 'm a sucker for pretty dishes. The scallops were super fresh, and I LOVE anything coconut, so I really enjoyed the richness in this dish paired with the hint of heat from the chilies, each bite was quite the experience, and definitely memorable. Of course, you can 't indulge without dessert! I 've always seen their Eton Mess on other people 's pages so I had to try it. Theirs comes with passionfruit curd, local strawberries, and lime leaf! This was delightfully refreshing and light, truly a great way to end your meal. Just be sure to mix it up well, as I think the salt was all at the top, which was a surprise at first!
