We used to celebrate in t... read more I 've eaten at a lot of great restaurants, and Beckta is one of the greatest of all time for me. Their new space on Elgin is fabulous. We used to celebrate in the old prime rib place there, and so to return to that space now occupied by a world-class restaurant like Beckta is a dream! We had a FEAST (we turned the three-course into a four-course). CJ was an impeccable waiter. Not only was he friendly, but he made some really stellar wine choices for us, and I also learned a lot from him (he picked a new wine for each course). That 's the thing about Beckta that I 've noticed: it 's not just that the food is great, or that the restaurant is beautiful, but it 's that their staff is so friendly, and the service is NEVER pretentious or too-cool-for-school. Beckta (and Play for that matter) is not 'formal ' but CLASSY. It 's not one of those awful stuffy restaurants. I felt so at-home, so comfortable, so welcomed. That sort of service is what makes this one of my favorite restaurants. I can 't imagine how anyone will be disappointed here!

We had the caviar and blini, the burrata and sourdough crostini, the Brussels sprouts, the charcuterie and the lavender and blueberry financier for dessert. Paired with a great chianti like red and a wonderful Pearl Morissette rosé! Atmosphere and great service too!
