We went here while staying in Mahahual. If you are coming in off of a cruise, please hear me....There is absolutely NO reason to be worried or afraid!! Mahahual is awesome. We weren't just there a few hours, we stayed there 8 days and never even felt remotely uncomfortable. Explore! Learn some things! Meet some people! Now, on to my Tropicante' review!!! Even though we are Sooner fans, we loved Steve and we forgive him for being a Longhorn!! LOL. I already knew about Steve's place thanks to his blogs. "Tales from Mahahual", check it out BEFORE you go!! Funny and useful stuff. Read about the tips! I'm so glad we sought his place out. By far the best nachos in town (we tried others, believe me). Great pico, try the shrimp ceviche, my husbands pollo fajitas were amazing as well. From cancun to Xcalak in our 10 days, Steve's place was the best Pina Colada I had and I am very picky. Great view here right in front of the ocean, perfect breeze to keep the bugs away, palapas for shade. If you want a lounger you should email in advance, probably a month ahead because everyone knows his place and loves it. Tropicante' is in about the middle of the Malecon, so don't get sidetracked or pulled in by the other places. Like I said, this is the best by far. It's easy to spend the entire day right here. Meet Steve!! He's a blast and full of info. Cain was our waiter and he ROCKS!! I'm sure the others do too as Steve is focused on great service, Cain just happened to be who we had so I'm giving him a shout out. All the staff help and work together to keep everyone happy. Our table was even kept tidy throughout our day, they don't leave finished plates sitting around and every now and then they would come by to wipe the water off the table from our drinks condensation (just little attention to detail that makes a difference). Steve was telling us about some of his goals, expectations and how he runs his place and staff. I'm telling ya, it's the best. I could go on forever but this is just trip advisor. OH, by the way, THE ALCOHOL IS SAFE HERE!!! I promise! No one "mysteriously passed out" or passed out at all for that matter. The guests are very important to Steve's establishment. You're going here to have a good time, good drinks and good food. So relax, be nice, enjoy the people and the area, they will enjoy you too! From: Oklahoma (literally our tab name, cuz that's how they roll there LOL)

While I haven't been to every attraction in Costa Maya, this was one of the best stops I have ever made on a ship's excursion. We e-mailed Steve and he reserved us some beach chairs on his property. He will send you detailed instructions on how to get to his property. Print the little treasure map and follow them. You won't be steered in the wrong direction. We spent $3 per person and took the open air trolley from the port. It cost $2 per person to return in a cab. $10 round trip for 2 people! His staff is so friendly and accommodating. He told us that many of his guys have been with him for nearly 10 years. There is no cost to hang out at the beach. They do ask that you order food and beverages. One beer, 3 Diet Cokes, 1 bottle of water, order of fresh guacamole, and some amazing batter fried fish tacos cost only $26. They have massages available and can hook you up with any water activities. The owner, Steve, spends time chatting with all of his guests. The beach was small, the water clear, and the palm trees gave much needed shade. I can't say enough great things about Tropicante. Should we return to Costa Maya, we will definitely go back.
