If you're looking for an outstanding brunch spot, I highly recommend this restaurant. The food is simply fantastic, with highlights including the Two Eggs Hash Browns and Toast, as well as the Meat Lovers Omelette served with a side of crispy hash browns. Both dishes are delicious and satisfying.
The service was exceptional as well, with attentive and friendly staff who made our dining experience enjoyable. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it a great place to relax and enjoy a meal. Overall, a perfect spot for brunch!.
What Justin Althaus dislikes about A J's:
We were seated at a large table, and the owner inquired if we were expecting more guests. We jokingly replied, "No, is the herd coming?" and mentioned we could move if needed. She took our comment very seriously. When she asked what drinks we wanted, she never inquired if we wanted anything else with our meals. We were seated at a large table, and the owner inquired if we were expecting more guests. We jokingly replied, "No, is the herd coming?" and mentioned we could move if needed. She took our comment very seriously. When she asked what drinks we wanted, she never inquired if we wanted anything else with our meals. She approached the table and simply stood there, not asking if we were ready to order, until I finally had to place the order. Throughout our visit, she never checked in to see how our food was or said thank you for stopping by. In fact, she spoke only about seven words during the entire time we were there. This level of service is completely unacceptable, especially for the owner. I won't be returning, as I've never encountered anything like this before.

I drove 65 miles to enjoy breakfast, and I have to say, it was the best chicken fried steak with gravy I've ever had. The service was great for dining in!
Wonderful little small-town cafe we stopped at on our way through town. Great food, nice service, clean bathroom. Small gift shop area in the corner. Service: Dine in Meal type: Breakfast Price per person: $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Nestled in a charming small town, this delightful diner offers an inviting atmosphere and a menu filled with exceptional brunch options. Guests rave about dishes like the Two Eggs Hash Browns and Meat Lovers Omelette, praised for their freshness and flavor. The restaurant’s cozy ambiance and friendly staff create a welcoming dining experience. While some patrons have noted inconsistencies in service, the overall quality of food remains consistently high. Featuring unique touches, such as fishing seat dining, this local hotspot is a must-visit for those seeking delicious meals at budget-friendly prices, all while enjoying the warmth of a small-town café.

This is a charming and cozy restaurant in a lovely little town, featuring friendly staff and delicious food at reasonable prices. I felt truly welcomed during my visit and thoroughly enjoyed the simple breakfast I ordered. Overall, the experience truly highlights what makes this small city special. While I can't comment on the entire menu, everything I've tried has been well-prepared and budget-friendly. I can't wait to return!
We always make breakfast at ajs when we stay in the lake osakis and it has never disappointed! delicious food and service and fun atmosphere
Just a great small town Minnesota diner. Like many similar restaurants the hours are 6 am to 2 pm, obviously catering to breakfast, brunch and lunch. A sign in the window says “Hiring cooks , servers and dishwashers.” There appeared to be one server, one cook and one busser working today, they were all busy but got things done efficiently and the food quality was very good. Bacon cheeseburger and California burger exceeded our expectations. Quality beef prepared perfectly, fresh veggies, and buns were seared on the grill. There were a mix of tourists, senior citizens couples, such as ourselves and local workers who stopped in for lunch. We always pick a booth to sit in, but there were also small tables that could be pushed together to easily accommodate a larger group. Along the dining counter the seating was a novel Minnesota lake country idea: individual fishing seats such as you would find in a boat or pontoon, and they are comfy.
Our first time there! Great food with excellent service. We will definitely stop by again!
