Was Anonym at Mackies Cafe a mag?
I stumbled on this quaint cafe on my way back from booking a coach at the railway station next door. Service was very friendly and quick.I had a chicken burger with a lovely pot of tea. I was tempted to order chips to go with it, glad I didn't as would not have been able to eat it all. I have had quite a few burgers in my lifetime... The sit in area was very busy, I ordered take away, it took quite a while. If you like this heavy, stodgy type of food then go for it. It wasn't for me...what felt like a kilo of chips, kilo of bread and a kilo of meat, couldn't finish it and felt pretty average and bloated after the little I did eat... View all feedback.
The burger at this restaurant is incredible. The bun is incredibly soft, hence why it's called the damper burger. It also comes in a large size, making it perfect for feeding two people.
Still amazing burgers after all these years, and just how I remembered them. Burger with the lot was fresh, tasty and well put together, all in a yummy soft damper bun. Absolutely delish!
I have celiac disease and Mackies offers reliable gluten-free burgers! They cook and prepare all gluten-free items separately, including the chips. It's rare to find a restaurant or cafe that makes gluten-free chips and fries them separately from other gluten-containing foods. This shows that they truly understand and care about proper gluten-free cooking. The burgers were large and a good size, even though we ordered the regular size instead of the large. They also sliced the pineapple very thin and fried it so it wasn't a big, soggy chunk. My husband loved his damper bun, saying it was better than a regular bun. The service was excellent, very friendly, and took the time to reassure me about gluten-free options. I would 100% recommend and return!
