Magic Chilli - Ohakune
Magic Chilli
Description
Tucked into Ohakune, this lone Indian spot serves generous, home-style portions and often impresses with butter chicken, tandoori and speedy, welcoming service. Reviews are polarised: many praise authentic flavors, friendly staff and value; others report inconsistent cooking, wrong or undercooked dishes, rude service, safety concerns and occasional foreign objects in food. The casual interior is basic and sometimes tired, prices range budget–mid, and there’s no liquor licence. Ideal for tourists and families seeking hearty Indian fare, but quality and service can be unpredictable.

We visited Mount Ruapehu on October 28th, 2024. Although we didn’t catch any snow, we discovered this restaurant. The food was amazing! We tried four different vegetarian curries along with tawa roti. I’ve never had tawa rotis this soft and delicious, not even in Auckland. Highly recommend this place for great food. Authentic Indian cuisine, the best I’ve had in NZ, and I’ve been to top Auckland Indian restaurants, and they pale in comparison! Keep up the amazing taste, seriously magical chilli! Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $90–100
Nice and clean. Friendly and quick service. Food was quick, very flavourful and delicious. No liquor licence so no beer available to go with the tasty food but plenty of juices, so not a huge problem. Enjoyed our time there and the unique recipe for the Onion Bargie had us lick our fingers. Happy to recommend. We'll be back for sure. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner
One of the worst restaurants ever been in my life and I order chicken biryani and it’s totally disgusting. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $20–30 Food: 1 Service: 1 Recommended dishes: Chicken Biryani
