Nestled in a charming coastal town, this lively open‑air restaurant pairs Greek‑inspired, seafood-forward cuisine with a convivial bar scene. Highlights include octopus, lobster dishes, inventive flatbreads, mezze and memorable desserts, alongside standout cocktails and cold brew. Evenings often feature live jazz and a bustling, relaxed atmosphere; owners and bartenders are praised for warm hospitality, though child-focused service can be inconsistent. Popular and frequently full, it’s ideal for couples, travelers and groups seeking flavorful, social dining with a relaxed, slightly decadent vibe.
My girlfriend and I were in Portsmouth, New Hampshire for the day just walking around the cute little town when I decided that we should take a drive up to Maine since we both have never been that far north before! It was around 5:30pm when we reached York, ME and I was starting to get hungry! She was as well! I pulled over and decided to look up places in the area and stumbled upon Nikano’s a town over! When we got there, we were greeted with a smile and the atmosphere of the establishment blew me away. It’s an outside seating restaurant with a small bar and an amazing menu full of great food. The bartender was beyond friendly and every single person there, staff and guests, were so so so nice to my girlfriend and I. We didn’t have a reservation for a table so we sat at the bar! It was a welcoming experience. She ordered the tomato flatbread and I ordered the lobster flatbread! Wow. Who knew a flatbread and a beer could taste that delicious. We haven’t felt secure about a place to eat in a long time. And it was our first time in the state of Maine! What a flawless experience. Thank you to Nikanos and to that sweet couple next to us that made us feel like we were at home. When I find myself up that way again, I know exactly where I am stopping to eat. 11/10.
The food was quite enjoyable. The lobster pasta was tasty, and the spanakopita was also delicious. The Greek salad was fresh and crisp. We were fortunate that the friendly hostess managed to find two seats at the bar in this fully booked restaurant. The male bartender was excellent, although the couple sitting next to us noticed that the female bartender seemed to ignore us and focused solely on the customers ordering alcoholic drinks, which was unprofessional and rather disappointing.
