Contribute FeedbackThai Cafe at the Vulcan is a long-standing spot with mixed reviews. There are challenges with ordering vegan dishes online, as pre-made sauces may not be suitable. However, in-person dining may provide a better experience. Despite inconsistencies in flavor, the restaurant is accommodating to various dietary needs and has now introduced delivery options. The atmosphere is simple but clean, with a friendly staff. The location may seem sketchy at first, but the food, including dishes like pad Thai and veggie spring rolls, is fresh and satisfying. Overall, Thai Cafe at the Vulcan seems to be a hidden gem worth discovering, despite some drawbacks.
I stopped ordering from this restaurant after multiple staff members informed me that all their dishes contain fish sauce, making it unsuitable for vegetarians and vegans. Buyer beware!
I attempted to place an order at this restaurant, but the online menu required selecting a meat option for each dish. When I called, the person who answered was polite but struggled with communication. She suggested ordering online and said she would do her best to make the dishes vegan. However, upon further discussion, it was revealed that some sauces are pre-made and cannot be made vegan. I believe that dining in person may provide a better experience, but I ultimately did not feel comfortable with the ordering process.
Been eating here for about 15 years and I've seen several changes in management. The menu has always been the same and they understand vegan food. They've always been happy to accommodate other dietary needs. Food and flavor quality can be hit or miss. Glad to see they have delivery options now!
Nice people. Eccentric location. No trouble getting vegan food that I seemed both by taste and discussion truly vegan (no fish or oyster sauce). Food was pretty sweet as it often is Thai restaurants.
I visited this restaurant with my husband and two daughters, who are omnivores, while I am vegan. It was a great compromise for all of us. The neighborhood seemed sketchy at first, but once we turned onto 45th Street, which is essentially an alleyway between two buildings, it improved. The interior was simply decorated but clean, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. I ordered the pad Thai without fish sauce and egg, which was spicier than I was used to but very delicious with fresh vegetables. I also tried the vegetable spring rolls with tofu, served with a tasty green chili sauce. I even watched the cook pick fresh mint for the rolls outside, which added to the freshness of the dish. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meals, and I believe it was worth the visit to this part of town.
