I really enjoy getting the vegan combo and splitting it with my partner! The vegan dessert is also fantastic! Just remember, Ethiopian food is meant to be shared, so when dining in, all your dishes will be placed on one plate. This includes any non-vegan dishes ordered by others in your group! The portions of injera are also on the smaller side, so it's a good idea to order an extra portion for each meal. View all feedback.
What Villain doesn't like about Enssaro:
I don 't eat here anymore but it 's unclear if Enssaro ever had many vegan options to begin with. On their menu, they list items containing ghee as vegan and a dessert with honey as vegan . Multiple people in the local community have said that items labeled vegan were never actually vegan, and unfortunately, that seems to be my assessment as well after more times of trying to talk with the restaurant and get answers.... This had been one of my favorite restaurants for the last 10 years. The Veggie combo is always a great choice. The dishes and flavors are fantastic, the people are fantastic.
Enssaro is an Oakland treasure. You can taste the love in every bite. I like my misir wot spicy, so I asked for that in the comments, and the food came well spiced AND they threw in a couple whole chilis on the side, which to others might be impractical but I found endearing. Good people good, wholesome food. I can always trust my body will feel great after, too.
Wow. This is my first experience with Ethiopian food. Nothing was mid. Literally everything was so tasty. Theres a slight spiciness (I love spicy so if youre very sensitive to spice it may be worth asking for very mild) and it is so delicious. The lentil variations and cabbage and injera. Amazing. Also the honey liquor is similar to Fireball, kinda cinnamony. Loved the chicken tibs omg. I will be craving this now, its so good!
Solid Ethiopian food, no frills packaging, ok pick up experience, value for the money is only middle of the road. Would prefer to try a dine in experience next time.
Order it. Whatever it is. Order it. Youll be glad you did. The Butacha/HUMMUS Ethiopian/vegan is bomb, the Veggie lentils /vegan Sanbussa are bomb, the combo platters bomb, as they are every single time. The desserts are a sleeper hit too. You cant go wrong with Enssaro!!
