A popular kitschy cocktail bar located in downtown Oakland. The ambiance and vibe are fantastic. Make sure to arrive early if you want a seat. The signature drink is the Greyhound, but be cautious not to overindulge, as you might have trouble walking unassisted after a few! View all feedback.
What Fabiola Ivonne Rosas Urrea doesn't like about Cafe Van Kleef:
I was really disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. I went there last night and encountered a female bartender who was clearly having a rough time. When we simply asked for our drinks, she got angry and even asked the bouncers to kick us out! She was extremely rude and seemed discriminatory. The bouncers were not any better! The atmosphere was confusing, as everyone around us seemed just as perplexed by... View all feedback.
This fantastic bar in Uptown Oakland serves a classic Greyhound cocktail made with fresh grapefruit and your choice of vodka. They check IDs at the entrance, and it can get quite busy. It’s a great spot to bring out-of-town guests, and there are plenty of dining options nearby.
I have no doubt they serve a variety of excellent drinks, but I can’t resist ordering their greyhounds. There’s nothing quite like a greyhound made with fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice and a generous wedge of the fruit on the rim. Combine that with the delightfully quirky decor and a lively crowd, and you’ve got one of the top drinking spots in town.
Great service and a fantastic meeting spot—THE GREYHOUNDS!!! This place is perfect for both business meetings and social gatherings. The atmosphere is very lounge-like.
Not sure why this is called a cafe . I don 't think they serve food. But they are famous for fabulous Greyhound cocktails and it 's a well deserved reputation. (only $6-amazing for the Bay Area). The bartender never stopped squeezing the fresh grapefruits. She said they go through many cases daily. Compared to canned, this doesn 't even taste like it 's from the same fruit! And the ambience-it 's out there, bizarre, strange, and so much fun. Hard to see in my photos because it 's very dark inside, but if you are near Oakland (and over 21) it 's worth a visit.
Came to Oakland on work trip and was told this is a must see! Tried the Grey Hound, Vodka and grapefruit juice with a large piece of grapefruit in it on the rocks... Sure too many of them may be dangerous. Place is a bit narrow at the bar. Need to stand back at the wall to let people in. Lots to look at on the walls. Glad I came in. Not sure if they had food, just had drinks.
