There is a cool atmosphere and vibe here - becoming of the Northbridge area. It feels very authentic. It is not an Italian pasta restaurant! As a matter of fact they didn't have any pasta on the menu (only Gnocci which is strictly not ordinary pasta)However, I highly reccomend going to Nomafia unless you are craving pasta. There are many other nice dishes here. We tried three different ones. The Flank steak, the beef cheaks and the Gnocci. All three had great taste and a decent size to cover most needs. We sat right in the middle of the restaurant and could follow the kitchen in there preparations. The restaurant has a small selection of vines both bottle or by the glass. Nothing fancy, but ok. The red wine was, however, served way too warm.

Call me old fashioned, or just old. To me pre-theatre dinner is a nice quiet restaurant with pleasant knowledgeable waiters and calm and comfortable surroundings. No Mafia is none of those things. And definitely not a place if you were born before 1990.We had tickets to the absolutely fabulous Tartuffe at Heath Ledger Theatre and were looking for an early dinner before the show. Having never heard of the No Mafia, we decided to try.The place is a 2m wide 'noodle' running along the bar with three American diner style booths at the end and for some weird reason a big screen showing 50s style clips. None of the Italian. We were seated at a "trendy" high table with metal chairs, my stilettoed feet dangling high above the ground. This despite having made dinner reservations in advanceThe menu is limited, as is the lighting. Can't say the same about the noise - read music (ie trendy music), which was at a level where my beloved and I couldn't hold a conversation without shouting. We ordered bread to start with. Came with no butter. A tiny tiny bottle of olive oil was pointed out at the edge of the table (the size of those airplane served spirits in years ago). The two mains - fried seafood and gnocchi - were at best ordinary. If I want to be honest, they were bad, seafood was dry and gnocchi mushy and tasteless.Won't be going back there, will dine in the city before the next show.
