Reviews - Ray's Bbq
Reviews summary
Ray’s BBQ in Norman offers a mixed but largely positive experience, celebrated for its tender ribs, flavorful brisket, and accommodating service. Many praise the smoky, juicy ribs and a friendly atmosphere that welcomes groups and families alike. Sides like collard greens and fried okra receive high marks, while the sweet tea is frequently enjoyed. Some critics note inconsistencies, particularly with dry brisket and overly sweet sauces, and occasional sogginess. Takeout is often reliable, and customer care stands out. Though prices lean higher, Ray’s remains a local staple with loyal fans and a warm, casual vibe perfect for BBQ lovers.

I absolutely adore this restaurant and come here often. I typically order the ribs with a side of collard greens. I have no clue how they get the ribs to be so tender—they must be using a slow cooker! View all feedback.

This is a 5 star bar b que. But I gave 3 stars because the last 5 times I have been in there is no sliced brisket. Daryl not sure what’s going on but the Moore location is not having this issue ??????
The barbecue was absolutely outstanding. The brisket was tender, flavorful, and juicy. The ribs were also incredibly tender and delicious. Plus, the prices were very reasonable. This barbecue is truly the best!
Really like this place! My son will be at OU in the fall and when we visit I will make sure to get BBQ at Ray’s!! I love the brisket on top of a big baked potato! My son had the brisket sandwich and mac and cheese and it was amazing!! This was our 2nd trip to Ray’s—we also visited in March 2019 and it’s just as good now!! Update: Came again in June 2024 and had the lunch special: loaded potato with chicken and some guy pulled pork sandwich with fried okra. I also had a side of collard greens. The greens were A+! Fried okra B+, potato and chicken were good but chicken was a little dry and didn't have a lot of flavor. Pulled pork sandwich my son said it was good but not great.

I always tell myself that I’ll venture out and try something different, but I can’t help but go for the ribs and brisket every time. The meat is always juicy and tender, boasting a perfect amount of smoky flavor even before any sauce is added. I struggle to pick between the hot and mild sauces, so I end up ordering one of each to enhance my meal. As for side dishes, I absolutely love the smokehouse beans, greens, and okra—especially when paired with their house ranch dressing.
What a letdown! This restaurant really misses the mark. They charge $5 for just two tiny cups of BBQ sauce—seriously? And what’s with all the water accumulating under the meat and fries? Everything was extremely soggy. The service was also disappointing; the cashier was rude and unhelpful. I won’t be coming back. Do yourself a favor and save your money—give this place a pass!
You place your order at the counter, where the service is quick and friendly. I tried the brisket sandwich and baked beans. The brisket sandwich was decent, and both sauces were enjoyable; the brown sugar sauce had a smoky flavor, while the vinegar sauce offered a nice sweet tang. However, the buns were just standard white bread—nothing memorable. I wouldn't order the beans again; they had a chili flavor and were quite spicy, but not in a jalapeño way—more like a heat that gradually builds. My son had the pulled pork and fries, and the fries were crispy with a light batter. While I appreciate supporting locally owned businesses, I don’t think I’ll return, as I have better options nearby.

I suggest Rays the roof sandwich with brisket and hot links. Delicious with the hot bbq sauce and that makes this my favorite BBQ restaurant. My dad...

I constantly remind myself to explore new dishes, but I always end up ordering the ribs and brisket. The meat is consistently juicy and tender, infused with the perfect smoky flavor even before adding any sauce. I can never choose between the hot and mild sauces, so I opt for one of each to complement my meal. My favorite sides are the smokehouse beans, greens, and okra paired with their house ranch dressing.
I visited this restaurant with a group of 11 people, and they were very accommodating! The food was delicious, and I really enjoyed the piece of cake I had. The watermelon sweet tea was also delightful and refreshing. Overall, it’s a lovely place with friendly staff.
I hate writing negative reviews. .. There though this was the driest brisket I have ever had. The barbecue sauces were extremely sweet. The turkey was almost as dry as the brisket. The brisket fell apart and not in a good way. Beef jerky has more moisture than the brisket here. The fries and beans were the only things palatable. I was close to asking for a refund. The only positive about the place was its cleanliness. Good social distancing and of you want to do keto here u can as long as u keep away from the barbecue sugar sauce. Also the brisket had almost no smoke. Would not go back.
What a disappointment. This restaurant isn't worth your time. They charged $5 for two tiny cups of barbecue sauce—really? Plus, there was an alarming amount of water pooling under the meat and fries, making everything soggy. The service was terrible; the cashier was rude and unhelpful. I won't be returning. Seriously, save your hard-earned money and don’t eat here.
I stopped by this restaurant while in town, and I must say it's conveniently located on Lindsey Street, just about 3 miles from I-35. The staff was very welcoming and offered great recommendations. My friend ordered the three-meat combo dinner, which included double-sliced ribs, brisket, collard greens, and mac and cheese. He seemed to enjoy it a lot, as he finished it off quickly! The brisket was moist, and the ribs were tender. I opted for the Rays-The-Roof Combo sandwich, which featured chopped brisket and sliced hot links, along with a side of potato salad. The sandwich was excellent; the chopped brisket was juicy, and the hot links added a nice bit of spice. However, I wasn't a big fan of the potato salad since it had large chunks of potato and was mustard-based. The sweet tea was also on point. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place!
