Ambience leaves a lot to be desired ie Formica topped tables, very white not inviting restaurant. Don't let that put you off as it hides a gem. There are so many Thai restaurants in Sydney (apparently Sydney ranks 2nd to Bangkok for the number of Thai restaurants). So it is hard to stand out so all I can say is there is a small menu clearly so they can focus on everything being fresh and cooked to perfection.
I went to this little gem of a place with some on my friends in Sydney on a recent trip it was fantastic. Warm and friendly welcome by the owners and staff. The open kitchen was a hub of activity and you could see the passion and skill put into the cooking. It's being your own bottle which I love. I like my wine and it's great to be able to bring what I want to drink for a minimal charge. We were a table of 11 and we pretty much ordered most things off the menu which was great trying lost of different things all of which were outstanding. Great atmosphere and the diners around were all clearly enjoying there meals. Nice touches though out just little things like bring glasses of water without asking for them for the table. Sweets in a big jar to enjoy at the end. This place is perfect for any occasion and I will certainly be back. Thank you for a great evening !!!
Was in the area around lunch time and decided to try Maggies as my daughter felt like schnitzel. The place was empty which should have been a sign. I ordered a vegetarian dish that the waitress described as gnocchi. To be honest it was so bland it was disgusting. I forced in about 3 forks full and left it. Ordinarily if a waitress sees a dish less than half eaten they question if there was anything wrong. This waitress stayed away. My daughter ordered the veal and after eating half of it (which was less than ordinary and chewy) found strands of hair in the sauce. At that point I felt sick. When I took the plate up to the counter to show the waitress, she laughed at me and said it was mushroom hair! She asked me hadn't I heard of mushroom hair? And continued to give me the bill. The cream sauce on the veal I'm certain was also off.The place was dirty, unfriendly and I would rate it the worst eating experience I've had.
We used to be a fan of Maggies after visiting here a few years back. I have an Austrian background and the food here was always up to standard and reminded me of the food from Vienna. Last night (Saturday night) the venue was bare. We made sure we booked as previously the restaurant was always busy, especially on the weekends. The kitchen was filled with Asian staff. The menu was all in english without German headings. The food came out quick and it lacked the standard it had previously had. The Schnitzel tasted bland and overcooked. The pork knuckle was dry and the meat didnt fall off the bone. The crackling wasn't edible. The Rosti was all running and soft. If we wanted this experience, we would have gone to Una's. We did not find any value in our visit and even knocked back dessert to save ourselves from further disappointment. We won't recommend or be back here anytime soon. I am sure Maggie will be disappointed with what her restaurant has become.
Myself & my wife love coming here, Good sevice and the meals what can you say the "Snitz" go for it & "strudel: all i can say is " Schon' better yet Wunderbar.
