Description

Kelly's is a longstanding institution in Newtown, offering a mix of punters from goths to after-work drinks, live Irish music, and karaoke nights. The two-floor pub is well-decorated with dark wood and Celtic memorabilia, creating a cozy atmosphere. The prices are reasonable, with a pint of Kilkenny going for $7.50. The food is described as beautifully cooked with large portions, and the $12 specials are great value for classic pub grub. The staff are charismatic and provide good service. The layout of the pub is unique, with a mix of olive green walls and stained wood furniture downstairs and a bar area, stage for live shows, and outdoor smoking area upstairs. Overall, Kelly's offers a mix of good food, drinks, and atmosphere, making it a go-to spot in Newtown for many.

One of the best chicken parmigiana' I've ever had! Place has a great atmosphere, good music and a big space so good for big groups who are interested in a pub crawl.

My first time at Kelly’s on King. I saw Wicked Envy play on stage, a great place for bands to play

Mikaela has got to be the utmost bartender I’ve met in my life. In a socially deprived time like we live in, she offered solace, wisdom and tenderness with her demeanour and kindness. Kelly’s will be my first port of call forever moving forward when navigating the Newtown nightlife

The layout of this pub can be described as the inner workings of a giant's intestines if they were stuffed into a terraced house. The downstairs area has a mix of Olive green walls and stained wood furniture. As if the intestines were digesting pea soup and trees. Upstairs has a bar area, a staged area for live shows and an outside area for smokers and Nicole Kidman lookalikes. If you look pass the updated scenery you can almost hear the walls speak of their aging past. Like an vintage motorcar, it wishes to engulf the patron with it's rich history and dementia soaked class. The food is highly edible. Laden with a fabulous smell associated with good fresh ingredients prepared in a cozy yet clean and organized kitchen. Martha Stewart would be proud as punch. I've had my heart broken in this place recently. A crush which lasted three years destroyed in last than three seconds. Not sure how this might effect the star rating. The staff didn't know how to react to a grown man crying into his beer. As a result my IPA had a salty aftertaste.

So they've changed heaps since lockdown. They've put money into the bar systems and the overall atmosphere. They have two brand new pinball machines, a Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith, both are pretty sweet. They also have two pool tables upstairs and Mondays are free pool/league. The bar also has two nitro stands now for Guiness and Kilkenny and the bartenders know how to pour both. Overall, a new favourite spot for me to hang out with the boys
