Reviews - Drum Dining
Reviews summary
Drum restaurant presents a mixed bag of reviews. Customers rave about the beautiful atmosphere and high level of service, particularly for larger groups. However, multiple diners were left disappointed by the food quality and service inconsistencies. While some enjoyed their meals, others found them underwhelming and not worth the price. The highlight seems to be the beef cheeks and desserts, but issues with steaks and entrees were also noted. Overall, it appears that Drum offers a lovely setting for a special occasion, but diners might want to manage their expectations when it comes to the food and service.

Great service. what a small jewel in newstead. wants to be definatley back. absolutely loved!!!
An excellent discovery in newstead that quickly becomes a favorite. chef paul hoffman produces excellent dishes, with classic technology that shows the difference between many suburban voices. friendly staff, and always a welcome for recurring customers. a venue that would make a casual lunch or drink, but also with a menu that would make a special occasion unforgettable
Beautiful atmosphere! perfect for date night or any special occasion! one must also go and her Sunday cheese special is amazing! outside and inside seat. book in advance to get a beautiful inside seat on the window with a fantastic view both on the interior of the restaurant and on the street!
Not bad about eating or service. do not think, sick hurry back to the value for money, though. foods were fresh, but there was a little love to detail. Maybe next time.
Arrived here with great expectations after two recommendations only to be disappointed. Decor and ambience great. Moderately attended on a Wednesday so promising. Initial waiter seemed to be on the money. Then got swapped to a young lady with no idea. That dragged things out. Entre’s were ok without being brilliant. Mains ribs (an entire meal) were average can do better at home, duck a bit tough. Third waiter to finish was ho hum. In summary looks can be deceiving as can our friends recommends, unfortunately!!

Experience fine dining at this upscale restaurant with a focus on fresh, high-quality ingredients. The average price per person for dinner ranges from A$100 to A$120.
I recently held a dinner for 22 people at Drum and I couldn't find any fault with the food or service! The beef cheeks were incredibly tender and the jus was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. Junya and Kylie provided amazing service.
A low key local restaurant with great food and excellent service. We dine there every couple of months and it’s consistently good. Outdoor area is dog friendly, good wine listand the truffle fries!!! . The whole package. Sorry to see it close, another loss to the Newstead restaurant scenethanks Drum Dining team you will be missed. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner
We dined here tonight and found the experience average for the price. The standout was the octopus entree. The octopus and pickled chilli combination was really tasty. We didn't feel the polenta added anything to the dish. For mains, we had the steak and chicken. The steak was a good portion size and tasty, but extremely chewy; our jaws really got a workout. The sauce was nice, but salty, and the carrot puree serving with the fish was quite scarce. The chicken dish also had a general portion of meat. The asparagus was tasty too. It was also salty. The mushroom side dish was two mushrooms. It was tasty, but very simple. The wine selection by glass was poor. They charge for on tap sparkling water $4pp unlimited. Note that our glasses were never topped up, even though I had an empty glass with the main meal. That is a rip off had we known they were charging, we would have asked for refills (which should be done without us requesting it). The restaurant was not busy. The ambience was not amazing and decor average. The venue did not appear wheelchair accessible, as it had almost half a flight of stairs to enter.

This is a fantastic place for a leisurely long lunch. The food and drinks were beautifully presented and incredibly delicious, while the staff were attentive and friendly. We felt very comfortable (the chairs by the window were perfect for our friend who is 30 weeks pregnant) and truly welcomed. It made us feel special—thank you for a wonderful dining experience!
We've visited Drum three times this week, and we can't wait for our next trip! The food, drinks, and service are exceptional, and the decor is simply stunning. It's the perfect spot for a drink with friends or a delicious meal. We're thrilled to have such a fantastic restaurant right at our doorstep!
